I remember going to Oxford in the 93/94 season... Got a feeling it was either a boxing day or New year's day fixture although I could be wrong..

About 1000 Palace fans got locked out due to the away end being full... I was one of them!!

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Palace were the first team to play at their then new stadium.

We lost 1-0 as I recall.

A good bit of trivia. I didn't know that.

Whereas the old Manor Ground at Headington was indeed awful, at least it was a 'proper' football ground. The current, 3-sided affair bolted on to a cinema/bowling/Frankie & Benny-type complex, is a soulless place. The whole complex was built next to a lovely old stone-built pub, but sadly that has now closed and (I think) been demolished, which is a travedty.

Incidentally, the Kassam Stadium is where I had all my COVID vaccinations ie it was used as a mass vaccination centre.

Another poster has mentioned that Oxford knocked Swansea out in round 1. Palace fans should be wary of the fact that they did so on penalties. Just saying!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Remember that, I was fortunate enough to get in. Recall a few Palace fans watching from the tree behind the away end :-)

Wonderful draw. Will try to get tickets but I suspect the allocation will be small.

In my opinion we should be going out to win this Cup (and FA Cup) as both are a realistic chance of silverware/European qualification.

We've got enough depth to put out a strong second team to get us through against the 'lesser' opposition.

Agree i hope we take this seriously. Happy to rest a few but we could say pick the 9 subs from the weekend fixture and it should be strong enough.
As we have never won a major competition it would be nice if we at least tried to win this one

Oxford Utd have in their ranks Billy Bodin who is the son of Paul Bodin who played a few games for us in the early 90s.

I do remember quite a lot of Palace trivia 1972-onwards, but I confess I looked up previous League Cup meetings with Swindon on the HOL database before posting. However "in my defence" (not that I believe I need to defend my action), my own memory told me that we'd hardly ever played Swindon in that competition in my time as a supporter, so I looked it up so as to fill in the detail.

Maybe we could play the team that stayed in the UK pre-season, which did quite well against lower-status opposition.
