Visiting London after 3 years away

When I first went to the Middle East - 1994 - the level of service there was a bit like you would find on a cheap Spanish holiday, language barriers & actually getting what you ordered - but wow did they soon catch on & surpassed the level of service I would expect having left London - now the service levels in Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, KSA all exceed the VAST majority of what we have available in the UK. Call centres were being allocated in India & similar locations years ago (cost saving) with WFH (Modern tech) its not difficult to see that with each tech breakthrough allowing employees to be practically anywhere in the world its only the thin end of the wedge. Originally posted by PalazioVecchio
"Working from home" has finally fecked the business-model for the World's mega cities. London, Paris, New York etc. The need to be here for employment has less traction than previously. Allowing huge numbers of professionals to return to a rural idyll. Cheap housing, space, low crime, better schools, etc. Cornwall, kerry, Malaga, Who the feck wants to pay big money to live in Thornton Heath ? Especially for bankers with kids at school. Future london accommodation will be sofa-surfing the odd day here and there. With the main family setup being far away. Many of our plumber & electrician friends from Eastern Europe are already on this page. Wife & kids stay at krakow full time. We always saw London emptied of workers at Christmas. I fear the future will be " earn in London, spend it elsewhere" London will be working-men, childless young professionals, and dole-heads. No elderly, no cockneys, no kids of workers.

You'd think with all the wokeness/LGBTness etc that goes on in London that its bid would at least be one of the top 7, but clearly the Eurovision people think otherwise. Maybe they agree that the place is a s***-hole.

Maybe the cost of public transport discouraged the Eurovision from bringing their tinsel platform shoes & fake fingernails into London ? Do any Tube drivers own a ferrari ? Not bad for a lazy bloke with 3 GCSE's

Agree with what has been written so far but astonished at the extent of rebuilding in the inner suburbs. The residential housing stock looks very cramped but vastly improved. My other observation from passing through was the lack of diversity - the people I came across were mostly young and non-British. All in all, I felt the 'foreigner' in my own capital! ... and the roads are just not fit for purpose meaning that you can't drive in the capital anymore even if you can afford the petrol to sit in traffic jams as well as the environmental charges.

It’s akin to living like ants and yes it’s not diverse from our eyes but to the mayor it’s fantastic.
