Sorry I have to disagree about Dacoure, I thought he had a good game, broke up play, very rarely wasted a pass. Goes about his business in a way he don’t really notice him. All about opinions though

I agree. He also stopped Nunez scoring by getting a foot in that meant he hit the post, plus played two balls to Zaha which he should have scored with. Looks very composed and against lesser opposition he will thrive as he is an excellent passer and has great vision, always looking forwards when he can. Possibly not the bruiser we might have expected though..

My bigger concern last night was Ayew who with the new rules didn't win his usual 100 free-kicks a game and Liverpool seemed to literally run him over at times.

I thought it was a great team performance and a deserved point. I was however appalled at the way the commentary, pundits and Klopp responded to Nunez's sending off though. Ian Wright, Klopp and the commentator (here on TSN) almost seemed to suggest Andersen deserved to be headbutted. The TSN commentator said "Well, Andersen did shove him" before his colleague stepped in and said "You can't headbutt someone for pushing you". Unbelievable! If VVD had been headbutted by Wilf there would have been a meltdown. Wright (who never says anything good about us these days unless it is to praise Vieira) even suggested he didn't make contact and that Andersen went down too easily (which is maybe true, but he was headbutted!) One newspaper referred to it as a coming together of heads, which is a bit like saying Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a coming together of countries.

If I headbutt someone on the street I get arrested and yet on a football pitch it's ok and can be excused as 'naivety' or 'inexperience'. I'm not saying Nunez should get arrested but he should get an extended ban as he actually attempted to chin Andersen in the build-up which is why Andersen shoved him, and this was not your usual footballer headbutt, he actually goes to properly chin him.

I was expecting the usual pant-creaming when Liverpool equalised but I thought it was appalling how the headbutt was downplayed. Nunez was a dirty pr^ck in our preseason friendly with them so I was not actually surprised to see him do something like that. He's a hot head and this won't be the last of it.

I know Vieira likes playing 3 at the back but our full backs are not good enough to do it. They are so used to 4-4-2/4-3-3 that they still come in narrow when defending. If anything we saw the worst side of this with the Diaz goal and we continued to give too much space at the far post which is criminal defending given we should have an extra man. The wing backs need to trust that the 3 central defenders will take control of the box and concentrate on the opposition runners coming in behind.

I think I’d like to see us revert to a 4-3-3 against Villa with Hughes, Doucoure and Eze in midfield and Zaha, Mateta and Olise up top.

If you want more bite in midfield then go with Schlupp, Hughes and Doucoure and step Eze up the pitch in place of Mateta for a fluid front 3 that would frighten most defences.

I think Mateta must have been carrying a knock pre season as he has recently had a full game for U23s to get back up to speed.

Absolutely correct. Who notices Guehi going about his business? Does it without fuss.

Nunez has not got a deplorable disciplinary record when one considers his last 3 seasons before joining Liverpool - 11 yellows and 1 red.

I am not making any excuses for his reprehensible actions last night but it was his debut at Anfield, he is only in his early 20s, he so wanted to impress and perhaps emotions got the better of him.I have a feeling that other defenders, viewing his reaction last night, might conclude that he is a player who can be riled into irresponsible behaviour.

You did though Imagine if on your first day at a new job you headbutted someone? (I am presuming of course that you haven't.) I do wonder why football is treated differently sometimes. Maybe I'm overreacting. Meh.

Sky was the exact opposite as everyone said that his actions were inexcusable including Liverpool's biggest, fan Gobber Carragher

In a way, not much different to the infamous Zidane head butt. Ok his was too the chest but it was a deliberate movement to butt someone. I can’t recall exactly what the punishment was but I think it was worse than the standard 3 match ban.

I can’t see this being ignored by the FA. It will be interesting to hear what they say.

It wouldn't be that surprising if we end up being the only team to leave Anfield with something this season so have to be happy with a point. If you'd offered me 1 point at this stage 15 minutes into the Arsenal game I'd have taken it. Our pre-season was a shambles so this is a decent start.

Eze, Andersen looking very good; Guehi recovered from his Arsenal horror show;

Zaha lacking consistency. Brilliantly scores the most difficult chance and misses two comparatively straightforward ones. If he could bury those he'd be playing for Liverpool/City/Bayern.

We badly need to upgrade Schlupp. Any game where we have McArthur play this season we'll look a better team. Hopefully we can get someone in.

Ayew will be ineffective with these rules but we'll probably see little of him now Olise is back.

I'm not getting the greatest sense of confidence from Guaita at the minute. Seems slow getting out to players (Nunez hitting the post, Milner in the first minute) and he's had a few questionable handling moments e.g. that one he dropped at Andersen's feet that he had to put behind. Johnstone definitely has a chance of getting his spot.

Decoure was as you say but I think he needs a few more games to get in the swing and be the player we are told he could be. I believed the hype and expected him to be the player the pundits were talking about.

Richards, I expected less, but hope he will also be quietly effective when in harness.

Both will look better against lesser opponents.

On the sending off, f<ck the pundits. The only view that matters was Tierney's and he got it right. And Sky did not defend the headbutt.

BTW, great team performance, clung on resolutely but the gap between top and middle remains huge. They dominated possession and attacked us relentlessly, even with a man down. We scored with one attack. You say we could have scored a couple more and that is true. The problem of poor conversion is still not resolved. But we were not alone. Our goal was charmed last night. If they had won 4-0 no neutral would have been shocked.

Perhaps I should have posted that I certainly don't condone his behaviour.
I was merely advocating possible reasons for his deplorable actions.

Yes forgot to mention that. Possibly the best thing about last night after Zaha's goal was him coming on, weeks earlier than expected.

He'll take a few more games yet, but we have not seen him, Wilf and Eze all in their best form playing together. If they can gel... and convert...
