It's a Partial Contact sport, in that Contact is not in the Rules of the game(a la rugby), but it is Inevitable.

Strictly speaking all 'Contact' in football should be 'accidental'. That is why you can't go 'through a player' when tackling, and you should be 'playing the ball'.
The amount of Grappling/Tugging/holding/Barging and Hugging that goes on in a the Penalty areas is not really allowed, but is accepted for the flow of the game. That and it is too hard to officiate effectively.

Au contraire. Have you not heard of the shoulder charge?

People may have mistakenly called it a barge, however:

not sure that article has convinced me...

yes, I forgot about the Shoulder Barge, so in that respect I'd have to concede it is. But that is the only instance that it is allowed.

Dixie Dean(Everton?) scored 60/62 goals in one season many, many, moons ago. Most of those were when he shoulder barged the 'keeper into the net.

A poster earlier in the thread said that all the 'argy-bargy' that goes on in the penalty box, can't be policed by the ref, yes it can, it just needs a brave ref to give a pen(both ends) & for other refs to follow suit & it will soon stop. Bit like refs now allowing the game to flow a lot more & the likes of JA not getting his squillions of free-kicks per game.

If that head butt had occured in the local night club or pub, there would have been all sorts of reaction along the lines of the culprit being arrested and charged etc etc,why is it then acceptable to deal with this offence by internal discipline when it is clearly an offence that should be dealt with by the police, what kind of example does it give to population if there is one rule for footballers and everyone else is treated differently,it is about time this was dealt with by criminal prosecution route!!

Nonsense to suggest police should be involved with a relatively minor on field altercation. Had it got out of hand resulting in a serious injury then I might agree. Professional football is physical and emotive and these types of incidents happen most weekend across the professional leagues in England.

However, I do think the aggressive nature of the headbutt should be more than the standard 3 match ban.

Nunez is Uraguayan. South American football is full of ruff tuff centre halves who dish it out. His reaction was more due to his frustration at his piss poor performance.

Like Nat Lofthouse, who got his second goal for Bolton in the 1958 Cup Final against Manchester United in exactly that way. It can be viewed on Google and to a modern observer looks utterly shocking, but obviously was within the laws. In fact, opposition players were allowed to barge the goalie whenever he had the ball in his hands, thus putting him under serious pressure when he was trying to kick out. Are those things still within the laws?

Football is self ruling and would give larger fines and bans , all sport that involves contact of sorts is self ruled and offences are dealt with .

People who think that the police should get involved are woke mustn't do this mustn't do that for god sake lets not breath that is the way this world is going ,

if weekend players do what nunez did ref sends off and you get a ban if its a serous act then the police get involved and you are banned for life also then face criminal charges , so was it bad not really so why do you need police to get involved

I thought Nunez had tried to headbutt him in the previous tussle, but missed, and this angered Anderson.

If I am right, then I suspect his suspension may be quite a long one as it wasn't simply a reaction to a push, but part of a pattern.

My take was an elbow prior to the cross that came in to their eventual goalscorer. It wasn't clear from highlights, but Nunez seemed to throw his elbow into JA's chest to steal a march on him, but it was moot as the cross was nowhere near them. Andersen reacted understandably, but unprofessionally and the rest is history.

Yes it was but many in the media are seemingly ignoring that
