It WAS a good decision in that the laws/interpretations as they currently stand dictate that it should be a penalty.

It was arguably a BAD decision on the basis that the law is an ass; but ultimately the law is the law.

I thought the same watching the Trippier / De Bruyne incident yesterday.

A Yellow card according to the law of the game. But morally a Red in my opinion.

An arm extended away from the body makes that body bigger, in an unnatural position.

One could argue that if this ruling was removed, players could extend their arms to block crosses, shots and headers knowing that if they did so they would not be penalised if the ball made contact with them providing of course they never deliberately moved their arm towards the ball.

Anyway, no more to add on this matter as I am mindful of the fact that this discussion veers away from the subject of the Thread.

As a young player years back I was coached to spread myself defending crosses in particular, and more than a few times a deflection off the arm saved the day.
The point being the rule was hand or arm to ball not the other way round.
It’s harsh in many cases but if it’s not penalised players will have an excuse for using the arm as an extension of the torso.
As for the Villa pen , they should get over it, they were getting clobbered anyway, and many teams have had to accept this ruling ,including our selves on more than one occasion.

Handball should revert to deliberate hand/arm to ball.

Offside should be when one foot is in front of the last man.

It's not difficult.

VAR is like the country, if it's broke we won't fix it.

Pretty much my view. They let much worse actions like Cucurella's hair incident and Maguire practically strangling an opponent at every corner go without a care

Although personally I think it was a harsh decision, it’s the current rule and everyone has to live with it.

As for Gerrard moaning about it, what goes around comes around. Was it 3 or 4 years ago Sakho scored a perfectly good goal at villa park off the top of his shoulder and that disallowed for handball.
