Any fool could have seen that a vote for leave was a distinct possibility in the UK. The problem was that Cameron did not quite achieve the intellect of a fool.

2016. I was in the US at the time, the news coverage was hilarious, left-wing outlets were so confident that it was all laughing and joking, initially. This later turned to being more serious. The next morning they could hardly mutter a word

I was there as well - May 2016 from memory.
I was with a Clinton spin doctor late night and we had a sportsman's bet because he was being annoyingly smug and Democrat.
I went for Brexit, Trump for President and Boris for PM.
If Gove hadn't knifed Boris I would have been 100% right.

The Boris get Brexit done GE.

The day after when Corbyn and co had been wiped out somebody posted on the Hol the link to a left wing pro Labour site.

They did their own electoral coverage that night purely from their left of centre viewpoint. It was delicious as the guests started off predicting how many seats Jezza would win over Boris. All very confident and then the first red wall result came in and you could see the faces drop. They rallied however "it's a blip etc." until the next one and the next came in some of them had head in hands.

I fast forwarded about 8 hours and I felt sorry for these people by then had run our of excuses "blame the Tories press / racists / fascists etc." this can only get you so far.

I still laugh about it now and in fact the coverage was more interesting that the mainstream because these people were not impartial and spoke from the heart so whilst I found it funny I did respect their passion.

I wish the BBC would pick this up and at the next election have a red button option in which the viewers can pick their coverage e.g. 1. Tory 2. Labour 3 Lib Dems etc. and just let the pro party presenters speak their mind.

But it does rather deflate your assertion that the UK should have remained and changed the EU from within. I suspect the moment Cameron returned with nothing those people who were leaning towards Brexit made up their minds. I am confident that if Merkel had thrown him a bone we would have remained probably with the same margin.

The EU has always been a Franco / German alliance which other countries have been happy to go along with. The French protect their agriculture and the Germans protect their industry all very understandable.

However we are now seeing the strains especially as without our funding other countries are having to pony up. I don't say the EU will fail just that there will be more strains and arguments unless the Germans and the French reign in their selfish agendas. I

As I have said before there were serious miscalculations on both sides. I blame the Tories mostly because they put party before country. It wasn’t just Cameron it was Central Office fearing the rise of UKIP and it fracturing their power base, when the MPs as a group were against leaving. They knew the damage it would do but the party prioritised self preservation.

.

Not just the left wing!

Anyone with half a brain and a degree of respect was dismayed that so many could be quite so stupid as to think someone like Trump was fit to hold high office.

As he continues to confirm on an almost daily basis?.

Wow you really are an obnoxious person. As if anyone who doesn’t agree with you is a dummy. I wonder if outside of the WE round table brexit ‘meetings’ with your family they would dispute your opinions as not being theirs. I get a feeling you are a bit of a bully and forced them to hold your views. How can you be so much better than half of Americans and 52% of the voting public in the UK. That aside your still just a no body like all of us. Now that is real irony !

Nail on the head you have hit.

You can imagine the members in his bowls club all burying their heads in the newspaper or taking imaginary phone calls when he appears.

But seriously, it is his MOI to casually state anyone who disagrees with him is defective, ignorant etc etc.

Everyone is of course entitled to an opinion, but not their own facts.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
