Okay from us until the subs, we will get better, ebs and olise looking good and with a few starts and a couple of incomings we will be fine. Pre season was a s*** show and hasn’t helped but a couple of wins and we will be up and running.
There is so much trolling and negativity on here it’s depressing. Get behind the boys ffs.

It ain’t trolling mate, it’s the harsh truth. The negativity around poor tactics late in the game is justified. Even our own players pick up on it.

There is no shortage of support here and yes we are in agreement, we will get better.

Wilf just been interviewed by BT Sport.. He just said how he doesn't understand why when we go 1-0 up we don't go for a second and we just sit back and defend.

He's absolutely spot on.

If he is speaking like this sounds like a man who is on his way out of the club or def not going to sign a new deal.

Doucoure was excellent tonight. If we could find another like him, then Schlupp wouldn’t get into the first 11.

I’d like to see us sign a right full back that can overlap a bit more than our current players can. Olise at times had 3 players on him. That’s got to be addressed.

Yes he was looked tired towards the end he should have come off.

Schlupp would still play PV loves him as if hes something special hes not and should never be starting games he is the sort of player you bring him on in this game I could see him driving forward for a goal if that was the case but no.

I must say that Tony wouldn't mind him if Palace got him very good player.

We really need to do business clear out some people and bring others in but I dont see it happening may get a loan and a super cheap player that's it.

I seem to remember many posters complaining when Roy didn't bring on subs, if at all. Brentford loaded up with forwards so the perfect chance for us to go on the attack.

Easy to say PV made a bad decision with the benefit of hindsight. Guehi was ball watching at the goal unfortunately. We should have been out of sight but don’t have a striker who knows how to find space.

Awful awful substitutions - it is going to be a very long season if we are leading one of the poorer teams at home (who offered nothing in attack) & we start holding on as though they are Man City.
PV can kick as many water bottles as he likes as when they equalised, but he got it mightily wrong.

I thought Vieira had learned this lesson at the start of his tenure. Subbing defensively means we don't have players to control the ball, so we yield all possession to our opponents precisely when they're eager to attack.

On a subconscious level I suspect he "felt" like we were up 2-0 with 10 minutes remaining.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: our midfield is bang average and at times worse than that - I'll excuse Doucoure as he seems to know what it takes, but Jeff Schlupp reminds me of nothing more than one of those wind up toys. Point in the right direction and hope for the best.
Eze? If he's not on the ball what use is he? He studiously avoids all other aspects of the midfielder's craft.
We sorely need a Silva / Desailly / Makelele type player. To think that a Olise / Eze / Zaha combo is going to turn us into a scintillating Brazilesque attacking outfit when we can't control the midfield is risible.

I'm very irritated by yet another example of Vieira's defensive subs costing us points.

How many times is he going to do that before he figures out that it just invites pressure and has us defending deeper?

The point is firstly that this isn’t his first mistake in similar fashion and secondly that when we went five at the back the CH’s lost the tight structure they had all match and we started defending worse with five than we had with four. It was a poor decision, simple as.

It’s really easy In real time too! We ALL saw it when he took off Olise to bring on a 5th defender. The BT pundits are calling out the negative substitutions, Wilf did too and yet PV does not see it even in hindsight. Oh instead he blamed the players being tired after the City game - a bizarre comment given how hard Zaha, Olise, Eze, Ward etc worked.

If we had a better striker PV would substitute him in the last 10 mins to go 5 at the back.

When we sit back back we concede. Simple. I’m gobsmacked Veira hasn’t learnt this. It’s like watching Southgate manage England but we have an even more porous defence. So frustrating. Is it a mental block?
Guehi and Mitchell look nervous enough when we’re winning let alone when Veira invite teams to attack.
Wilf was spot on in his interview. Maybe he’s being honest because he’s on his way out but someone needs to call this tactical stupidity and lack of ambition and courage to win 3 points.

That’s my view too.
Vieira knew that Brentford had put a few more attackers on and responded to the anticipated kitchen sink being thrown at us.
However, we had looked relatively solid with a back four and the defensive changes unsettled us and seemed to invite pressure from Brentford.
It reminded me of Arsenal away last year when we moved to a back five and they equalised.
We sacrificed control of the game and it’s not a surprise they equalised.
This is not said in hindsight - it seemed wrong immediately we made the change.
On the positive side I thought Doucoure looked good.
We lack a top quality striker (which we are unlikely to get) and another very good central midfield player (which hopefully we will get).
