I'll be a pedant and point out 'could' implies something that might happen. 'Will' is indicative of an event that, well, will happen.

yep we'll be fine.

We've broadly got a nice run of games up until the WC. We just need to pick up some wins whilst everyone is fit, and then strengthen in Jan.

Our chances substantially improved now we have still got Zaha, at least until the next window.

The big worry is the lack of a creative midfielder and a disturbing tendency for the manager to favour parking the bus at 1-0 instead of utilising the talents of our youngsters to press for more (e.g. the Brentford game)

Not a definitive answer, I'm afraid but already I'm looking down, not up.

Hmmm.

I live in hope that the frustration, for the players, caused by not building on a lead against Brentford will lead to lots of attacking football.
PV is looking for continuing improvement and Brentford may have helped.

Every year I expect us to get relegated. For 9 years I have been thrilled when we have achieved 13th/14th or whatever.

Year 10, I expect us to get relegated.

I’m the same. What is this optimism?

I am of the opinion that our chances of survival are diminishing by the day.

Central defenders whose qualities are not defensive and have been found wanting in this aspect of their game, ageing right-backs, a fairly novice left-back with a lack of cover in this area,a midfield weaker than last season and in terms of goals we are very much reliant on Zaha with Eduoard a real disappointment.Furthermore injuries will play their part and the lack of depth in the squad will be sorely exposed.

Next 3 matches, Newcastle, Man Utd and Brighton - we could be in the relegation zone after these games.
I have been a doomsayer on HOL and lacerated for being so, however I detect that there are many others both within HOL and outside who share my view.

Patrick Vieira has asserted that we are short on numbers and he must be very disappointed that there were no further additions in the 'Transfer Window'.

yes - Bournemouth are down, Leicester Leeds Southampton Villa amongst others are worse than us

Bournemouth are down, but Leeds and Villa are better than us in terms of player quality and depth so it's more of a matter of the manager getting it right (Marsch more likely, Gerrard less so). Also, West Ham, Newcastle, and to an extent Brighton will not struggle this season so it'll be between us, Brentford, Southampton, Leicester, Fulham, and Forrest (fingers crossed Everton succumbs but it's not likely). Southampton are gambling in the way we are not: they spent about 40+ million on very, very promising young players (one from France and the rest from Man City's academy). It might backfire, but if it works for them, we will be very envious.

I think we'll stay up but it won't be too exciting to watch. Doucoure doesn't have Gallagher's dynamism and also the new intake of tricky wingers throughout the league will further expose the valiant, but ageing Ward/Clyne tandem.

Zaha scored a magnificent goal but these are rare throughout the season. I don't think we had a shot on goal from inside the box against Brentford. We might find it hard to get the ball in the box in danger areas this season.

With respect I disagree.

My belief is that of the teams currently below us in the table, W.Ham, Everton,Wolves, A.Villa and Leicester will all finish above us in the table and perhaps even Nottm Forest.

yes, in terms of the teams below us at the moment, other than Leicester I agree with you. But above us Fulham and Brentford won't last, nor will Southampton for very long.

I suspect a reason why we didn't spend is precisely because everyone else spent so much. SP realises the league is stronger this year than it was last year and thus it's more likely we'll go down. Right now we're somewhere between Norwich and Villa as status, and last summer we spent quite a bit (more like Villa) and this summer we spent relatively little (like Norwich). If we do go down, our high earners will be relatively easy to sell but had we added 3-4 extra high earners it would have been a potentially devastating Championship campaign.

Good thing we got Guehi and Andersen last summer. No chance in hell we would have bought them this summer for a combined 35 mil. Another positive is that (unless he quits) PV will be given time. What's the point in getting rid of him just to bring in Dyche or Parker, who seem to be the only two realistic options with some EPL experience? Chances are Benitez or Solskjaer wouldn't bother.
