If you want to quote me , quote the context. This was a remark on "if Newcastle had had any quality" or similar - just a rather more specific restatement of that. Both goalkeepers played well today and both sides can look back on chances they really should have converted. For a much more expensive side NUFC seemed more dependent on defensive errors and created less than Palace I thought. Overall we were probably better in attack than against Brentford - just no Zaha magic moment. OK, so we needed the fickle Mr Mason with us today but he was and overall a well earned away point that wouldn't have been counted on before the game.

We had lots of possession in the game, but that can be misleading because much of it was across the back 4 or passing backwards rather than passing with purpose.
On the positive side Doucoure plays with his head up and often makes a constructive first forward pass.
Thereafter it breaks down - Schlupp and Ayew play with their heads down and are difficult to build combination play through.
Along with Eze they can have a tendency to run into cul de sacs.
The result of this is that moves frequently break down before they get started after the initial promising pass by Doucoure.
This also applies to the full backs who for all their defensive qualities are not progressive looking to build moves down their sides of the field.
The moves breaking down inevitably leads to a build up of pressure on our own defence.
This was particularly evident in the latter stages of the Brentford game and against Newcastle.
It has also been evident in stages (unsurprisingly) against Arsenal, City and Liverpool.
This is not a criticism of the players concerned , but in my view we have to find a way of improving our combination play and also avoid the sloppiness in the final third when promising positions are squandered through lack of precision in the final ball.
We have shown we are capable of it - think Mateta’s goal v Villa.

First time I have been to Newcastle in a while. Palace support was amazing- but we were so far away from the pitch! Tried our best to support the team.

One thing I noticed about their fans is the intensity they portray during a game. I kid you not, every touch, decision, tackle are contested, screaming, shouting, on their feet, pointing fingers, aggression - all age groups guilty!

I was thinking- what must it be like for our players on the pitch! On many occasions, I saw them look at the crowd in disbelief. They received a verbal bashing throughout the game. Yes, I know they are professional players - but humans as well.

Not making excuses, but I feel the reason for some players having an off day was due to the above.

Again, I could be off the mark here, but just my observations.

Stand out player for me was Ayew!
