That might have been true when less than 5% of the population could vote and most people weren't affected by parliamentary decisions. What happened to change being good?

Change has to happen before it can either be good or bad. We don’t have a direct democracy. Nothing to stop anyone campaigning for one but right now we have a representative democracy, in which Parliament’s word is sovereign. No PM, or Party, can commit Parliament. The fact that so many don’t understand that, including it seems many Parliamentarians, is sad, but it doesn’t change the facts. It might have caused a political firestorm if Parliament had voted down Brexit but democratically they had the right to do so.

When 95 out of 100 didn't have the vote it made sense. Now it doesn't.

Truss the latest in a line of unelected failures. We don’t elect PMs. We elect a Parliament. We have one in which one party has an 80 seat majority. Their mandate came in 2019. I didn’t like it, but it’s their right to use it. So long as they hold themselves together they have no need, or duty, to call an election. Given our mess that’s for the best in my view.

It’s the fundamental underlying principle of a representative democracy. If you believe that because more are now involved we need to incorporate some elements of a direct democracy into our system then by all means campaign for it, get the new arrangements enshrined in law and it will be our system in the future. It isn’t now.
