We all know what a great talent this guy is but he is clearly not a central midfielder and playing him alongside Eze is not an option as neither can track back, tackle, head the ball or generally perform the defensive side that the position requires. We could move him back to the right side, however, we would then lose Ayew's hardwork and defensive acumen (and PV appears to want this). If we are to play all 3 (Zaha, Olise and Eze) we need another defensive midfielder to sit alongside Doucoure - may Hughes? So a 4-2-1-3, rather than a 4-3-3. For all Olise's talents he does disappear for periods of games and his goals and assist numbers aren't great. We really need a position that gets the most out of him. I'm loathe to say it but maybe an impact sub might suit us more, especially away from home. Alternatively, Ayew plays away, Olise in home games. Thoughts?

Yes, agreed with most of it, 4-2-3-1 is definitely the best formation we have, what about the three as Ayew, Eze, Olise.
Luka, which i don't think is as bad as his reputation, or Hughes, and dare i say it Wilf on the Bench for that explosive 30mins at the end

For most of the second half on Saturday Olise was moved out to the right wing and Ayew played in a no.8/no.10 role. It seemed to work quite well.

I thought he had a good game on Sunday. His silky touches are a delight and his pinpoint free kick to give Odsonne the equaliser was a cracker. Sure, he wasn't able to have a huge impact in the first half, but on the right in the second half he was much more involved.

We've said before, in a previous thread, that he has a strange demeanour, but I, for one, enjoy watching him play wherever he is on the pitch.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Broadly speaking we now have 3 matchwinners in our starting 11. Zaha, Olise and Eze. Of course they need to do their bit defensively, and get involved as much as they can with general play. But ultimately we need them to win us games. So we should be a little more accepting if they 'go missing' at times, as long as they deliver when needed. On Sunday Olise and Zaha grabbed assists and Eze scored the winner, so they are holding up their end of the bargain

100% agree.

Broadly speaking we now have 3 matchwinners in our starting 11. Zaha, Olise and Eze.

Of course they need to do their bit defensively, and get involved as much as they can with general play. But ultimately we need them to win us games. So we should be a little more accepting if they 'go missing' at times, as long as they deliver when needed.

On Sunday Olise and Zaha grabbed assists and Eze scored the winner, so they are holding up their end of the bargain

I recall another very skilful left footed right sided forward playing for us having joined from a lower division club like Olise. Taylor came in for some rough treatment from the oppostion in those days and Malcolm Allison used to use the tough Roy Barry at right back behind Taylor to act as Taylor's minder. If anyone took liberties then Barry would sort them out. I mention this in the context that at this stage of his development Olise can still be brushed aside even if the game as a whole is much cleaner. This is why he may be better employed on the right in the near term rather than in a crowded midfield where it's more difficult to find space. Apologies to those under 60 who won't have a clue about Peter Taylor or Roy Barry.

He's now 80 and as far as I know he's still working driving a van for a fish delivery company. He was certainly a tough guy. Probably still is.

If every player played like how people think they should then we would have 11 competing for the ballon d'or and would win every game 5-0, this is probably the most exciting and promising time in our clubs history with the most talented squad we've ever had. Stop worrying what they cant do and enjoy what they can. I say enjoy it while we can as its likely to not last very long probably not past this season once wilf leaves

If every player played like how people think they should then we would have 11 competing for the ballon d'or and would win every game 5-0, this is probably the most exciting and promising time in our clubs history with the most talented squad we've ever had. Stop worrying what they cant do and enjoy what they can.

I like the fact he's slightly different in character to many footballers, that can't be a bad thing. Absolute alignment with my sentiments there.

I like the fact he's slightly different in character to many footballers, that can't be a bad thing.

I think it's as simple as Olise v Ayew. When we're playing a lesser opposition and expect to have lion share of the ball, we play Olise and get at them. When we're playing top 6 sides, Ayew's workrate and dark arts are probably a better fit.
