To be totally honest I have never been overly impressed by both Mitchell and Guehi and how they were selected for England is beyond my comprehension.
I suppose in their defence they are both in their early 20s and quite inexperienced at top-level.

I have got to agree with you on this. Neither of them are ready for the England team and in Mitchells case I have always doubted ready he should even be playing for our team. There is a corner of the pitch where he is comfortable playing and after that he doesn’t even look like a football player. I actually rate Ward a lot more than TM for overall play.

Whilst I agree, and in fact have been the instigator, of some of the criticism of Vieira's tactics on occasions,it may be unreasonable to over react to two poor performances against Leicester and Everton.
I can't recall other terrible performances this season and we had a tough set of opening fixtures.
Like others I would like to see more tactical flexibility from Vieira to address our shortcomings in midfield, but I don't see any player that is screaming out for inclusion and who is being left out by Vieira.
He wanted to keep Kouyate, but the club couldn't come to an agreement with the player.
He's lost the influential McArthur to continual injury and we didn't manage to get Gallagher.
Part of me feels that he can only play with the cards available and let's hope he gets more options in January.

Only seen the lowlights on the telly but I think the stick Vieira's getting is unfair and he's been badly let down by recruitment.

The fact that Schlupp, Ayew, Ward and Luka remain regular starters underlines this. I don't see Hughes or Riedewald as an improvement either.

I've not seen all of the away games but I don't think our young stars / attacking players are turning up. In particular Edouard's ball retention isn't great and he show's too much to the defender doesn't stretch them with his running etc

As I've said on another thread, some of the criticism is along similar lines to Roy received ie he should pick one (mediocre) player over another.

Perhaps we will all have to just accept some inconsistency in performances and results.
Olise and Eze are young and relatively inexperienced and are likely at this stage to continue to blow hot and cold.
Despite his brilliance, Zaha also tends to have inconsistent spells which are occasionally illuminated by a match changing moment.
Edouard also seems to be taking time to adjust to demands of the premier league with only fleeting glimpses of potential.
Having said this, if one looks at the season as a whole so far the performances have been decent, with the exception of Leicester and Everton.
I remain optimistic for this season, but strengthening of the first team (as opposed to just the squad) is necessary in January and we need to keep our centre backs fit.

100% this, if we always played to he best of our potential we'd be a top 8 team. But we're not.

The best teams, above all are consistent. We're just not there yet, nor do we have any squad depth. Having Luka in was always going to be damage limitation.

My only real issue is not including another CM (ideally Hughes) to partner Luka. IMO we should have tightened up away from home.

But lets not throw the baby out with the bath water. We're having a decent season.

Stan, we’ve had five appalling halves of football out of the last six. The problems run deeper than you make out and a bounce back convincing performance against the Saints is far from certain.

A lot of our supporters are concerned and rightly so.

The game against Leicester was hardly "Appalling".
- Uninspiring - yes
- disappointing - yes
Similarly, the first half against Wolves was disappointing but again not appalling (IMHO)

And before you ask - yes, I was at both games.

I wasn't at yesterday's game (fortunately - it would seem) but when I hear Vieira say it was the first time he's come away disappointed by the performance, I think it reasonable to call both halves of that game "appalling".

I’ve never rated Mitchell and this season his performances have been woeful. Ward, no doubting his service to the club over the years and his outstanding commitment and leadership but his ability at RB is now so far from what is required - both players are liabilities and should not be our first choice fullbacks. Luka has had his day and we desperately need a Gallagher type player to help Doucouré out in midfield and knit everything together, removing Schlupp from the centre of midfield is a must.

Better fullbacks and a strengthened midfield will help out Zaha, Olise and Eze immeasurably.

Last but by no means least we need a striker who is clear first choice, as in the days when we had AJ, Armstrong, Dougie, Murray or Jansen.

It will be interesting to see how Chris Richards develops on his return from injury. I reckon we can forget about Ferguson - another Wickham in terms of injuries and has missed the best part of 3 years in what would be the most important stage of his development.

I thought that yesterday (and against Leicester) the lack of a Centre Forward who could hold the ball up and then bring the other players into the game was the issue.

Mateta when he came on yesterday just lost the ball - continually. Edouard the same, but he seems to offer more than Mateta, however if we had a Calvert-Lewin then we would have retained the ball better, it would not have come back so much and the "flair" players would have seen more of the ball in positions they were going forward.

Mitchell is excellent coming forward, his positional play is what lets him down, but a class centre forward is what we are missing - one who can take the pressure off the midfield and defence by being able to retain the ball.

‘Appalling’ is maybe a bit strong for the two Leicester halves you’re right. I was also there watching in person and perhaps ‘rubbish’ would be a more suitable description.

I feel my disappointment from yesterdays game is influencing my overall appraisal of recent performances

We have enough players to provide much better performances than we are doing, the problem is solely on PVs shoulders, and he doesn't look like he has a clue most of the time, the players look bewildered with his tactics, 4-2-3-1 with Doucoure and Hughes as the two would produce better performances on many levels.

Don’t get confused here about our forwards, the service to them was awful. Plus the midfield couldn’t win or control the ball to be able to give the required service. Our forward players are in abundance in midfield and that’s our problem. They aren’t midfielders! Calvert-Lewin looked good because of those behind him. Gordon was superb and we have no one like him. There other midfielders were also excellent and they pressed our back four which we didn’t do to there’s. They were set up correctly to beat us. As for our set up, it was non existent. Not sure we should be blaming individual’s. Vieira was the main culprit yesterday sadly in my opinion?

All those managers have had pots of money to spend, it’s when you are doing it on a shoestring that you find out who the best managers are. We have no cover and a weak bench to call upon, Vieira by and large is doing a fine job. If you look at where he was in the French league it was at the beginning of his managerial career….

I’m glad we have him, he’s a lot better than Stevie G and Frank Lampard….

That fits Sean Dyche CV to a T

I agree with this..

He is tactically inept, cannot motivate the players, seems to have blurred perception of performances, fails to see opportunity in matches to get more from them.

Also i feel Osian Roberts is not helping matters.
