Mind boggling that anyone can describe Ayew as ‘lazy’!

Meant to add, it's Patrick's position, so you think he would be able to figure it out.

I was at the game and it seems we watched different games or at least saw the game differently.
1. Ayew was not lazy. His work during the final 25 minutes or so enabled us to get the ball forward. Indeed, he won the corner for us that resulted in the last play of the game, not to mention a couple of fouls that helped us re-organize.
2. Edouard was virtually dead on his feet by 60-65 minutes - he had to come off for someone with fresh legs and energy. Several people in my area of the ground were calling for PV to make that change at least 10 minutes before he did. It was obvious Edouard had run himself into the ground. Our front 4/5 put a lot into the first half with the high press we put on Soton.
3. Luka needed defensive support towards the end of the 2nd half - not replacing. He got that support in the form of Hughes and then Riedewald and we saw the game out.

Absolutely spot on

To answer your question, no.

Got caught on the ball again yesterday like he did for the first goal at Everton. Lying face down thumping the ground is not an appropriate response.

Passing abysmal, as evidenced by the Edouard booking.

Freekicks as dreadful as ever.

Too slow, sits too deep. Southampton bossing midfield until Hughes came on in the second half.

Good enough in his day, sadly that day is gone. Should have kept Kouyate, or made a better fist of bringing in Flynn Downes. Need 1 or 2 decent midfielders to replace Luka and the injury prone Jimmy Mac. Nobody currently in the academy who seems to be able to step up.

TBF I think we did all we could with Downes. Media videos done etc. The fact his agent is the daughter of WH assistant manager, they would have got inside knowledge of deal + Downes is WH fan. I am happy to criticise our recruitment policy but not over this. However perhaps we should have paid what Ipswich wanted

To be fair he had a few good games last year when subbed on. I think it's correct to say he can't go 90 minutes anymore and definitely can't play back to back games. Probably still useful as a sub if we manage his minutes.
My problem with this is we have MacArthur in the same situation. We're getting to the point where our midfield, particularly our DCM staff, just isn't up to the rigours of the game anymore.

Success will lie to you but failure always tells you the truth.

Potentially.

Could it be that actually all he needed was a couple of solid starts under his belt to feel himself again?

Not sure.

Personally I still don't think he's the long term answer. But if we can get more performances like yesterday out of him, we'll have a decent CM on our hands again. His quality has never been in doubt for me.

He did well especially in the first half however he tired and I think that is the reason Soton won the second half.

Luka doesn't have the legs for a 90 min performance.

reminds me of Jason Puncheon......a fast & rapid decline.

Not really at Prem level anymore.

only a Brighton troll would say that.

Ayew runs his guts out , every game. And makes a ton of tackles. And often seems to get an assist.

Still an Eagle.

People with nothing to do or say often still find a way to to do so very loudly.

Yep. Very similar. Was decent a while ago. 2 Bob now unfortunately, half a game playing ‘less sh*t than expected’ doesn’t make him decent.
Was in the Albion when the team was announced , a groan went round the pub.

Although PV obviously sees something in him (maybe some of it has been through lack of choice) but he has been bringing him on as sub for some time now & whilst the start on Saturday didnt give any confidence to the faithful (who had fully expected Decoure to return) he didnt let us down -

We have 3 games in just a few days coming up, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Decoure start the 2 league matches but Luca to come on with 15 minutes to go ( or some combination of Luca & Will Hughes) & for Luca to start & play the whole the cup game-

Its a squad game these days & a manager has to make use of all of his resources in line with the circumstances he finds himself -

I would also expect to see Jairo involved in the Newcastle game.
