Eze can feel miffed, could do a job as either a forward or in midfield yet Gallagher and Grealish have been picked over him despite barely playing for their respective clubs

I wouldnt expect EE to start but he offers something different to what we have, and ultimately we need that if we want to eventually win a game where tactical tweaks are required to get us over the line.

Can't say I'm hopeful but then again I have none of the usual excitement for this WC!

Too many players picked on (past) reputation, rather than form.

Mitchell was never going based on current form, but Maguire and Coady have nothing to offer over Guehi.

I don't see the logic of picking Philips who hasn't played a full game for a year; he will be massively lacking in match fitness.

Pleased to see Gallagher make the squad (on last's year's form), but gutted for Eze. He can drift passed people in a way the fat brummie can only dream of.

England will squeeze through what is an easy group, then get dumped out as soon as they face any team of note.

At least Palace will have some well-rested players for 2nd half of the season.

Southgate has said about young CBS “ they haven’t done enough to push older ones out” Really! How much opportunity has he given them? Then says only 31% of PL players are English, so look abroad Tomori and Abraham!
I am sick of excuses for just playing his favourites despite form/fitness. Phillios hasn’t played since September, Walker similar.
Dierand Maguire appalling choices

Maguire. Seriously??

Bloody outrage but completely predictable. Error waiting to happen.

Guehi will naturally be devastated. He would have been expecting a spot. Hopefully he can get over the disappointment and can get a well earned break and ready for the fixture pile up.

I don't think Eze was ever a serious candidate, but in our opinion (as Palace fans) he would have given us something different with his dribbling. Oh well, England's loss is our gain.

Looks like we only have Andersen and Ayew to worry about.

1994 was the year it all gave way for me. Having the Soccerball world Series Cup in a country that had no knowledge of the game was ludicrous.
Years of Engeeerland pre-tournament hype and failure, coupled with the domestic Premiersham, have left me indifferent to the Higher Levels of the game.

Well, sorry Gareth, but your selection looks uninspired and unexciting. To think we're missing nearly 2 months of watching Palace for this.

Frankly, I'm pleased none of our lads made the cut. I'm sure PV will make good use of the pause in play and take the opportunity to improve us, without risk of injuries. But really, what a farce this WC has become.

Personally, I can't see England getting past the quarter finals. I'll be glad all over when it's all over.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Even if Guehi, Mitchell or Eze had made the squad they wouldn't have played. I also think all three could do with a bit more experience before having their heads turned by England. Maddison deserves his call-up but some of the other decisions are odd, as Phillips is not essential to England and won't be match fit, Maguire is a walking tragedy waiting to happen and Walker is no longer very good even when he's fit (which he's not), which is made all the worse given the form of players like James Tarkowski. Taking Wilson as the only other out an out striker is also a big risk given he gets injured or sick with such regularity (although if he stays fit I think he's a top player).

Nothing about the current England squad fills me with any excitement but putting a positive spin on it the lack of expectation might work in their favour. Also terribly out of form players like Sterling and Mount might see it as a welcome break and surprise us all. Please. Please. Please don't play Maguire though.

Joke selection, Maguire has been mentioned by what about Rashford and Sterling hardly pulling up trees. Far too many players out of form and as I predicted 2 injured / not played for a while.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The only positive is that Southgate will leave after this tournament. Quarter finals if we are lucky.

Out in the quarters irrespective of the squad choices he's made or the teams he might now choose.

Yes indeed I mentioned Maguire earlier but (grasping at a defence!) I only briefly looked at the squad so I didn't notice that Rashford was in it until just now, and only then because for some reason he got a special mention on the BBC six o'clock news. By the time the WC starts, Rashford won't have played for England for 18 months.

Likewise Sterling's inclusion became apparent to me only upon reading your post just now. What can I say? Political Correctness wins a place at 'the greatest show on Earth'.
