Absolutely a dodgy ref, but once again England fail to roll their sleeves up and give as good as they get. How many French attacks were stopped by a cynical foul? I can recall one. How many England attacks? Loads. Exactly the same in the Euro final; all the dirty tricks employed by the opposition and the referee too weak or too biased to punish it adequately if at all.

The difference that Gareth is missing, good teams know how to win, when not playing well. Its no good being the better team, if you dont win.
Its no coincidence it happens to England, every time they play a decent side.

Do you think Southgate instructs the England players to "play fair"? Liverpool and Man City players carry out midfield skulduggery all the time - not letting the oppo build an attack and "breaking up play" - so why don't they do it while wearing an England shirt?

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Croatia will win the world cup.

My lucky mate drew them in our sweepstake he is the type of fellow who if he fell down an open manhole would come up clutching a suitcase full of money.

He's lumped on at 28/1

Portuguese players not happy with the ref in their game. They are positive there is an agenda for lower teams to progress, France an exception but they are really no better or worse than us.

Perhaps FIFA were happy to get rid of us

We were not robbed, on the day I think France were slightly better than us. However once again England fail to beat a top team at a tournament, we are flat track bullies.

Can Gareth Southgate take us to the next level? For me he has performed very well and converted England into a serious force. What we need now is to learn how to win when it matters and I believe this is what we are missing. We need to be positive and start believing, we have the talent but the mentality is questionable. Just my opinion.

His use of substitutions is poor. Last night he put on Sterling, who hadnt trained all week and flown home and back, rather than use Maddison, then put Rashford on with minutes to go.
Its fine margins of decision making at this level is the difference, Gareth just hasnt got it, every good team we play, out think us.

We were certainly not robbed !
France of course scored their goals in open-play but in my humble estimation, overall there was not too much between the teams.France were better in the first half we were better in the second period.

As you have asserted, once again we have fallen short when playing a top-ranked team at a major tournament but perhaps this will change at the next World Cup.

Maddison is an odd one. Prior to the tournament lots of pundits asserted that he must be in. Southgate obviously didn't agree. Conor's value hasn't increased either.
I thought Callum Wilson looked lively when he got a chance.

And if not, the next one, if not the next euros, if not the next euros and so on.

It’s a mentality thing with England atm as the players are certainly there. Kane typified that yesterday, melting at the pivotal moment.

It’s not a complete write off of Southgate but I don’t think he’s the manager to really instil that last piece of the puzzle. Is it the case of him performing better than previous England managers (a low bar in any context) or is he falling short with our best generation arguably since ‘66? I’d suggest the latter.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It was probably one of the most open games I've seen this WC with neither team sitting back and defending, but that probably favoured France slightly. For me Saka has been the outstanding player for England, but I feel a bit sorry for Rashford who really deserved more than a cameo.

Croatia have been the most boring team this WC to watch so I hope they lose. I'm hoping a miracle happens and Morocco wins it.
