It's a vague hope though. Like buying a lottery ticket on the off chance you might win a fortune - the most we get is 4 numbers now and again.

Blimey you are doing better than me, do it every week and I am lucky to win a fiver every few months, but yes you are correct.

I don't think we are "entitled" I think we are being realistic.

Only a handful of countries have a realistic chance of winning the major competitions on a regular basis. You have to have the population, the money, the facilities and a large number of professional players to pick from.

England ticks all those boxes so we have under achieved, that is not arrogance just facts.

You forget that mental desire to play for the country as strong as the passion to play for your club. That is the hurdle we have still to overcome.

If we wish to extend the analogy from International to club football then the big six fans expect to win something each season simply because they have the money and fanbase.

Palace fans don't expect we hope.

Indeed, you - like me - are calling out the original comment that no club fan thinks it's 'failure' to not win a tournament.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I would liken Morocco's run to the SF as similar to our (CPFC) finishing in any 'European spot' or even just top 8! We're not expecting to really win anything nice as it would be.

England are bit like Tottenham at this stage, perfectly encapsulated by Kane's missed penalty: a lot of hype and perhaps reasonably evidenced expectation, a CL/Euro final but the last time we won something was so long ago it's of little relevance anymore and seem to lack the bottle to go all the way no matter how close we get.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

A little insight as to why an English Ref was overlooked for WCF . . . [Link]

Great logic there. He's going to be influenced by something that happened when he was two. Bet he was looking forward to sneaking in some dubious decisions in front of VAR and a billion viewers.

Argentinians perhaps require some education with what actually happened in the Falklands, unless their song was 'our conscripts got killed or ran away'.

Bronze medals for Croatia.

Well deserved. They played a blinder against Morocco. Luca Modric is another fella that is truly World Class.

Eze Peasy at Anfield....

Highly enjoyable 3rd place decider won by Croatia.

Only 4 million population they have been runners-up once and 3rd place twice since their first appearance in 1998.

Modric now 37, a little master.

Morocco were great, just lacked the finishing touch.

Just waiting for the closing speech about the best World Cup blah blah.
Having Watched about a third of the games I never raced to get home once. Not even the England game. Didn’t feel anything for this WC, sadly as I love football in general.

I watched far fewer than that, mate.

England v Iran, v Wales, v Senegal and v France. Iran v Wales.

That's it. I was mildly hoping to keep watching England all the way to the final, but of course they turned out the 'same old, same old' in the qf. I've no interest whatsoever in watching two teams that aren't remarkable in any way contest the final. Or 'the coronation of Lionel Messi' to give it its correct title.
