Whilst it could have been more interesting I tend to take the view that so long as its not a team in the big 6 (or Newcastle away) then its a good draw -

Home to Southampton is a winnable game -

A bit disappointing, but it's one you'd expect us to win.

Saint's will have survival as their priority and will likely rest all key players, whilst we have the luxury - of having points on the board - to go full out.

I get the impression in recent years that the club is prioritising the FA Cup, and so we should. Let hope for a few big guns to get drawn against each other and fingers crossed we could have another good run.

Man City & Chelsea getting drawn against each other is a good start

I very much doubt that this will turn out to be the actualite.
Southampton have a new manager at the helm and they will know that a win could provide them with the confidence and impetus in the quest to avoid the dreaded drop.

I think there's a real possibility of this Willo so empathise however whilst there is a feeling of 'Bo!!ocks, typical, we seem to get Southampton every other year and if not it will always be a similar level other PL side' I actually think we will win this one.

We are a different team at home, S'ton may have a bounce but they may equally struggle initially under Jones. It will be post-WC and Jan TW, will probably be a lacklustre game, we'll probably both play 60% full strength and I can see us edging it. That's not a declaration of fact or academically formulated hypothesis just my feeling on this one which whilst inferior to yours, does often align to the proverbial 'doom and gloom'.

Asides from that I am not too obsessed with the cup this year, I am more nervous about our overall squad and therefore PL status so my interest whilst still there, is less expectant or invested this season.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I totally understand your mindset given that we are aligned on this matter.

I tend to agree, we’ve had our cup run for this decade

I suppose the big question on team strength (for both sides) will depend upon how congested each sides fixture list is at the time the cup game is played given the reduced number of games played in the run up to the turn of the year (Queen passing & the WC break) -

Yep, injuries etc will factor too.

I highly doubt it will be played at the intensity of a PL match and I also doubt either manager will place it too highly in their priorities.

I would dare to suggest S'ton may still be in slightly more of a pickle than us in which case, alongside the above reasoning, they may not throw the entire kitchen sink at it, perhaps just a saucer and spoon or two. That might edge the odds slightly in our favour again.

With respect I think that is also our priority, six points off 18th place is not exactly making me feel secure in our current position and I would not want to get to an FA Cup at the expense of our EPL status, surely being in EPL is always our first priority!

I remember Southampton away at the Dell in the 4th round of the cup in 1965. Leaving the ground after winning, my mate called out 'Up the Palace!' and an irate woman whacked him around the head with her handbag!

50 years on from my first Palace FA Cup tie. Palace v Southampton, 1973. We beat Southampton at home in Div 1 on Boxing Day 1972 (3-0) and then in the cup in January (2-0). The Don scored in at least one of the games, possibly in both.
