It should be remembered that teams in the mix have to play each other as well. They can't both win. There are 4 games in the next two rounds where they play each other.

I still have us 5 points clear even if we lose our next 3 as is likely.

Currently at least 3 bookmakers are offering odds of 25/1 on us being relegated. I doubt we will be that price come February

If we lose the next few games the biggest problem will not be the number of points but how to reverse the slide at such a critical point in the season and restore any confidence to what look like a mix of weak younger players and average / below players who are past it.

25/1 is flattering us greatly. We've looked bad in many matches this season where we ended up stealing points. Plus this squad seems to have no fight in it. If we get dragged into the relegation mix, which is possible given our fixtures from now through March, we could be in serious trouble.

Once we hit April, we have an easier run in, but we could be in the thick of it by then.

Does anyone see players like Eze and Schlupp battling hard to keep us up? Me neither.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to place a bet now and cash it out in February.

I can only see 6 more points!
Draws against
Leicester, Leeds, Everton, Wolves and Bournemouth

So Relegation is a REAL thought this year
UNLESS

1. WE SACK PV
2. WE BUY A MIDFIELDER
3. WE BUY A STRIKER
4. WE BUY A DEFENDER

5. WE SELL : ZAHA (while we can still get a few quid for him)
get rid too of Ayew (centre forwards are supposed to score goals !)

We do need to sort out our home form. Last season we were great at home and even in games we lost we were the better team for large parts of the game (Liverpool/ Chelsea spring to mind). This has been the most disappointing aspect of this season. We just haven’t performed that well at home - even in that games we have won.

Apparently their manager thanked us for playing them back into form.

Typical!

Relegation is starting to look as though the possibility is looming. The combination of us playing badly and other teams finding renewed spirit, form etc is always terrifying.

I still feel as though there are many twists and turns however. I am of course hoping one of those turns will be our finding wins, draws and form again. That perennial feeling alongside recent displays leads me to hysterically believe we'll never get another point in the PL however a very quiet reasoning in my brain says 'don't worry too much, certainly not yet anyway'.

I also recall speaking to Villa fans on the train after they played us. There was a mutual acknowledgment of just how shockingly bad they were. Yes they've changed manager but I did not anticipate them being above us in table anytime soon. Ahhhh, football.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I know a young gentleman who is a Southampton supporter and prior to the game he expressed trepidation about his team's prospects and basically accepted the fact that his team would be defeated.

We have engaged in conversation since that debacle and he expressed total shock that they secured a victory.
