The football side of things will vary according to the manager and the players, but what I do like about Parish's reign is he does (on the surface at least) seem to be genuinely interested in creating and keeping a local identity for Palace, from signing local players (either for the youth teams or from other clubs like with Eze, Guehi and Olise) to helping the community with real efforts (eg proving shelter for the homeless at Selhurst Park), and keeping prominent figures around the club like Bright, Morrison, and even supporters like Izzard and Nighy.

I would hate it if we got taken over and ended up playing in the Qatar Airways Cow Shed Arena, or wore star-spangled shirts, with bloated squads consisting of over-paid players with no interest or attachment to the club or the area. Success for me would be winning a cup or qualifying for Europe, but by really earning it, not in a quick-fix Newcastle way which would seem shallow. In my years of following Palace the best days are the ones where we stepped up to the line and defied the odds when no-one in the world believed it was possible. Personally I still have faith in Vieira and I like the fact that unlike many other PL managers he never throws players under the bus, but always demands more, even when we win.

Enough from me. Time to smash Brighton

I think these are my thoughts as well. My biggest disappointment will be if and when we get relegated or when I’ve departed from this world (hopefully to a cloud hovering over Selhurst) is that for all these years we have had in the premiership that we haven’t got silverware or into Europe. I think PV has put more into the cups than recent managers and was let down this season by the team. Hopefully we stay up and go for a cup next season. As much as I like not fighting to stay up, mid table with no silverware can be boring and perhaps fighting to go up from the championship and winning a playoff final is needed again?

Our last period in the second-tier I remember the club pumping singing through the Tannoy system to try and create an atmosphere and hoping Alan Lee would punch someone just to add some excitement. Some of the football during the wilderness years under the likes of Taylor and Burley was awful.

I have periods where I hate what the modern PL stands for with billionaires treating clubs as toys or just as investments, entitled players and this idea that anyone who isn't the big 6 are somehow disposable. I watched the Wrexham v Sheffield United FA Cup first game and it was everything football should be: passion, excitement, blood and guts football. But, I don't think us returning to the Championship would improve things. I do however think that the investment in the academy might mean we might be better insulated against collapse if we did go down, as players like Rak-Sakyi, Phillips, O'Brien, Balmer and Ozoh might thrive at that level.

Be careful what you wish for! Mid table obscurity would be a great result this season, and onto a top ten finishl next.

We won't go down, but nothing exciting is going to happen.
