As usual, I'm with you on this, Nic. (I do sometimes wonder if we are distantly related....from Kent....similar experiences and views on CPFC ie realism tinged with gut-churning pessimism. But enough of this drivel ...). On the other hand, for as long as I've been a Palace fan, I've always had this "thing" with my mates about how often a defeat against us has been the final straw for a manager's tenure. Almost as though anything can be endured by a club, but not a defeat against the Palace. It seems to happen uncannily often, and for me it probably started with poor old Frank O'Farrell after the 5-0 drubbing ManU took at Selhurst.

I remember when we went down from the Prem on our first visit. Our last game we beat sheff weds 1-0 but they were safe as houses.
It cost them millions in place money and their manager got sacked quite quickly after the game because of it. I think all he got was BFH now do one.

Suspensions, injuries,no confidence in Potter, Chelsea on a losing streak, surely no better time for us to play them and win at their place.
Will we do it??
That is the 100m dollar question, after all we are Palace!!

This ably demonstrates the effects of inflation over time. In 1955, all key matters were the subject of a 64,000 dollar question. Now look at us!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I wish Chelsea had won yesterday - they'd be more complacent. I fear a backlash, Potter's fighting for his job now and it's against Palace. I think 4 - 1 to Chelsea and Potter saves his job (for now)

If we can score first and knock the wind out of their sails, Stamford Bridge will turn toxic. They will lose their home advantage and the disgruntled fans will be moaning, groaning and calling for Potters head. They are under massive pressure to perform without a fair few of their regulars. If it starts going wrong for them we could take advantage.
i predict a Palace win 1-2 and Potter sacked next week.

Chelsea have a squad of mostly very expensive highly paid international superstars that would walk into most teams, if they are not doing it on the field then it would be reasonable to consider there is something going on behind the scenes that's causing it - Maybe the takeover has caused so much unrest that its going to take time for them to settle down again, maybe the players feel that Potter wasn't the superstar manager that they wanted / deserved ? hopefully Sunday is another game where they dont turn up & we can escape with our dignity & something from the game -

We have come to an agreement with Chelsea that we will let them win if we can have Conor Gallagher

The game against Chelsea will be the yardstick for the rest of the season, it will tell us if PV has found realism, or is just fixed in a fantasy world of playing his way, damn the consequences, can he forget about fantasy football and become a mid-table financially restricted club manager, where the obligation of the manager is to get as many points as possible, whatever the style, i think by the end of the Chelsea game we will know the answer.

First team to score wins! (IMHO)

However, if we score first maybe 1-2

but if they score first could be 5-0

COYP!!

Agreed. However it's not PV's fault that after 10 seasons and £1bn revenue we have a squad no better than that which Pulis managed. Where PV can come under scrutiny is in the motivation of the players, the necessity of working hard when things are going against you, and the tactical inflexibility. The next few games will define him as a manager.

I agree, this is a big game for a number of reasons not the least of which is whether PV has learned anything at all from the last few PL crap show performances.

His team selections will tell a story. What do you reckon, same old same old? 4-3-3 with Schlupp Eze and Doucoure in midfield?
