When was the last time we spent £60m or anywhere near it in a January window? It would have to have been before Hodgson. Indeed, apart from Summer 2021, when was the last time we spent that kind of sum in the Summer window.

At least half the teams in this last window spent more than we normally spend in our summer windows. We are struggling to compete financially.

For people to see what you are getting at our spend (loan fees and compensation fees not included)

22/23 - €46.60m [Winter €12.00m] PV
21/22 - €85.62m [Winter €12.18m] PV
20/21 - €22.40m [Winter €3.50m]
19/20 - €7.60m [Winter €0m]
18/19 - €11.85m [Winter €1.15m]
17/18 - €48.95m [Winter €11.75m] FDB/Roy
16/17 - €101.20m [Winter €41.70m] Pardew/Sam
15/16 - €28.80m [Winter €0m] Pardew
14/15 - €31.22m [Winter €15.48m] Warnock/Pardew
13/14 - €33.00m [Winter €11.18m] Holloway/Pullis
12/13 - €1.73m (Championship) [Winter €0m]

Exactly! We played ManU and not Westminster Choir Boys. They are better in every department, let’s be fair. Don‘t think that not getting a result at OT makes us a relegation candidate or a Tier 3 side.

I agree, it is only getting 5 points from a possible 27 over the last nine games that makes us red hot relegation favourites at this time!

Mr Pedant here - I think it's 5 out of the last 24 and 8 out of the last 27.

When will the penny drop?
The current squad do not appear capable of clinical decision making in the final third.
This is a realistic rather than a harsh or negative assessment.
Unless the two new signings or McArthur's return make a dramatic difference I can't see how our decision making will improve.
Wilf will continue to run into blind alleys, Ayew will continue to play with his head down, Olise will contine to either under/over hit crosses and Eze will continue to get caught in possession.
Pass and move is the way forward as can be seen from Man Utd's second goal today.

I have to agree.
IMHO i think PV is trying not to be too critical of the players in public but it's now getting tiresome.

Palace bingo every week (in no particular order)

1. pass out from a goal kick and it either goes nowhere, we lose possession or we end up kicking it long. If we want to pass out we need the midfield to be involved. If they are not good enough, well try something different
2. Start slowly so the opposition have lots of the ball and gain in confidence
3. Play it around too slowly so the opposition get numbers back
4. Look clueless at throws in. Eventually just lob it up the line as per an U12 teams
5. Get a freekick on the half way line, pass it short and eventually go back to the goalie
6. Have no real tactic for getting the centre forward involved. Does he play a target man or run the channels? More often than not he does neither

The free kicks one annoys me - it's not that hard to get players in the box and launch it in. I find it hilarious how poor our strikers are in the air considering their heights. Get the centre backs into the box - although not actually the tallest rather paradoxically.

Mateta is 6ft 4in in height. His former coach at a French club mentioned that he is better with his feet than his head.
Of the 7 PL goals he has scored 2 have been with his head.

Eduoard has scored 9 PL goals but only 1 with his head.

Maybe he can give Guehi a piggyback on set pieces.

Teams confidence seems to of been shot since the World Cup. As many of the squad didn't figure in the competition thought we would of been a lot fresher on the restart and competed better. Fulham game seems to of set the tone where we were particularly sluggish, nervous in the early part. Bournemouth look favourites for relegation at the moment, so that result, albeit welcome isn't all that great. These poor, lethargic, timid starts seem to be going on for quite a number of games now, both home and away and not just against the best teams. Let's hope against the Weed at home this weekend we can have a right good go from the off. COYP !!

—United States Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld

The team often started slowly under Roy also, it's not just a PV thing, although he should have realised it by now and issued some orders.
