I stayed in Abergavenny for a week in summer 2021. The locals were very friendly. The landscape was spectacular and there were some great places to visit. And we hardly saw any sheep!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Be careful. The peasants are revolting again.

Hah, the Daily Fail

This was from June 22. It was a little local politics, to help push through what was announced in July 22. Second homes to be charged up to 300% Council Tax. Holiday homes to be classed as second homes if they don't rent out for more than 182 days per annum, an almost impossible target for most full time rentals as so much of the trade is only weekends.

Most holiday rentals in the Beacons are buildings that otherwise would not have been in use. As such it doesn't cause any friction as far as I am aware. The local farmers get to sell fire wood and produce, the pubs do a roaring trade, the canal boat and cycle rentals are strong and it keeps quite a few young people in jobs and in the area.

The issue generally has been places by the sea and in the Snowdonia area, which is rammed with tourism. Apart from the walking route from the Storey Arms up Pen y Fan, you don't see many people on the Beacons. It is very different from Snowdonia.

We do get sheep in the fields that surround our house but the fields aren't let for 12 months a year, only around 8 I believe. Which makes them good for dog walking. Lambing is just about to start, so may be some during February.

We stayed in a cottage in brecon for a week had a great time, we visited Talgarth and haye on wye, went into brecon, enjoyed the local pubs, lots of people in wales stay in cottages in brecon as it only a short drive for the South Wales people. Some cottage owners offer a discount if bookings are down in certain months usually reels a few people in.
