Not sure he will now.
But even if he did, so what? Name a sub when Chelsea last won the Champions league? Or maybe a squad player who was injured for the final. Either way, very soon forgotten.
Looking like it’s a bit late at Palace now to win a cup.
At least my route secures him a fabulous rest of life.
He is not tv pundit material so my way makes him fabulously wealthy for the rest of his life. He will guaranteed win silverware and help a very wealthy very important growing part of the world develop. All that might just float his boat as he gets old in his thirties!!

Might not matter to him, he might jsut want to win something, or be close to winning something, or play in the CL. Its completely understandable that before he retires he'll want to experience some on the things he's not had with us.

He broadly has 3 options

Big club - I feel he could get this, but he'd likely need to be willing to drop his wages and understand that he isn't going to be a guaranteed starter. Almost the role Shaqiri played for Liverpool. Not the main man, but still gets some involvement in some very big games.

Big money - take the highest offer, be that Qatar or Saudi. Doesn't really matter where. Its all about a retirement fund.

Big legacy - commit to finishing his career with Palace, on a very good wage. Help finishing the transition of the club, and help the younger guys.

Am I the only one who listened to Wilf talking about playing for a top 6 team in Europe and that was the reason for him to leave Palace.... Now all of a sudden he is considering Quartar on 20 Million a year !!! MMMMMMMM so Wilf is it Money or Europe ??

Over the years I have lost track of the number of times I have heard people start off by saying "its not about the money" & then by the time everything is discussed & settled it becomes clear that it was only ever about the money.

My suggestion is that it is an attempt to draw attention and discussion away from anything being 'only about the money' because... it is only ever about the money.

It's a bit like continually damning the 'super rich' clubs only to bemoan your own lack of funds.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Indeed it is -
I once had an employee who was incredibly selfish, everything was about him & how he could manipulate a situation to get something he wanted out of it - when discussing these situations he would always start his explanation with - I know it sounds like it, but I don't want you to think I am in favour of this suggestion because it will do this...........

The fact was that was the only reason he was ever in favour of anything.

I think he meant it when he said it however it must be clear to him now that he is not going to get the move he wanted so either he stays with us or goes for the money.

If they are offering him zillions towards the end of his football career why wouldn't he go.

Sadly, I completely empathise with this notion.

A few years back, I would have vehemently albeit very biasedly argued that Wilf was good enough for any team, better than most wingers and would have been massively valuable for them.

At this stage however, I really don't think he'd contribute sufficiently let alone improve any 'top' team.

His service to Palace is virtually unparalleled for me. If he wants the big payday to end his career where the only other option is staying at Palace to perhaps become a less and less integral part of an at best lower half PL team, I would not begrudge him the fortune that could await following all he has given us.

Just my opinion.

Very nicely put. Hard to disagree with any of this. He's almost 2 or 3 years too late for his 'big move'.

I still think that at the right price, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, and dare I say Newcastle would have him in the squad.

They are not going to buy him for 80mil, but a free transfer on reasonable wages

Time will tell

wilf can't really command a high wage, clubs know that he needs them, more than they need wilf... they can table an offer and know the lure is European football or a shot at silverware...

So I can't see him pricing himself out on wages... so a 2 year contract is a perfectly good gamble for any top 6 club... then, it's down to wilf to impress and get in that team, bench super star.

Parish let him down - it's no secret that they had a gentleman's agreement that if a club comes calling, parish will listen.. greedy parish held out too high... like I said, take 40 million for wilf the summer awe left, that's 90 million in the bank...
Sit on it for a season, whatever... but the opportunity was there to move on and rebuild...

His value when AWB left has dropped £10m since your previous post! That would have been £10m less for us to waste though, I grant you.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I feel for Wilf - he has a team around him that lack the creativity factor.

He knows Ayew / Schlupp/ Ed are slow / lazy & not creative on the ball

He knows like Olise does that the team struggle with depth on attacking / goal scoring ability

He needs to leave for his own self worth

Forever Palace Proud
