Probably won't mean a lot to the younger members of the board, but Gary Rossington was the last surviving original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Freebird & and Sweet Home Alabama will always be my favourite songs.
“My experience of life is that it is not divided up into genres; it’s a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you’re lucky." |

Rossington live a hedonistic life and did well to survive 71 years, and I agree ith you Charlie, Sweet Home Alabama is a great song. Makes me feel really old to think it was written in 1974. RIP
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

One of the great debut albums - Freebird, Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man, etc. He and Allen Collins were terrific playing together. RIP.

Lynyrd Skynyrd a great band, somehow different, more earthy than some other US bands, great songs and musicians, RIP
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I used to see a band called Bishop's Finger do a very good cover of Freebird in the Rose of Lee when I lived there. Edit: I didn't live in the pub by the way... Round the corner, Eastdown Park Edited by Tim Gypsy Hill '64 (07 Mar 2023 12.16am)
