Hodgson was always a defence orientated manager (a trait unfortunately shared with Gareth Southgate) but as our current defence is basically sound (notwithstanding our dodgy full-backs)
he will need to concentrate on a more productive midfield and inspire our mis-firing strikers.

And, most of all, he MUST get the players FIT as they have wilted in the last 30 minutes. It is a terrible indictment on Vieira that he didn't address this basic weakness.

My worry is that Hodgson will revert to type and favour the older brigade (Luka, Ward, etc) and fail to correct his big weakness of
late substitutions.

I hope McCarthy will keep him up to date on the talents of the new players.

No that was when he went and brought Brentford after he left us . The connection that might be messing with the brain cells is that Lewington was his coach and took over as Brentford boss when dear old Ron realised he had more success building golf courses than football teams

And we still need a striker

Here is a reminder of Roy Hodgson's performance in his last Premier League job at Watford last season.
He took over with 18 games to go in 19th position and two points from safety.
Watford ended the season still in 19th, but fifteen points from safety.
During that 18-game run Watford won 2; lost 13 and drew 3.
They scored 11 goals and conceded 36 during that run.
I think Parish is expecting a better return during CPFC's run-in.

I think you are missing a big factor. Watford were already doomed by the time he got there. They were in rag order. We on the other hand should not be in the position we are in.

He is coming back into a squad where he knows most of the players and the club so
no bedding in period will be required.

Come on, guys. Why the long faces?

We're still in the Prem.
We've got a second stab at the 'new manager bounce' in two games.
And we've got two England Euros qualifiers to enjoy.

Err...on reflection, I'll get me coat and a one-way ticket to Switzerland.

Absolutely dreadful decision, although totally predictable. We're not creating or scoring enough goals, and are not fit enough so how does Roy Hodgson's appointment improve that ?

Ten games of Luka and Jairo in midfield, with Roy sat in the dugout, legs crossed, staring into space.

If PV needed to be dismissed then fine, but replace him with somebody that's going to have an impact. The odd draw isn't going to be enough.

If we go down then and only then can you say 'Absolutely dreadful decision'.

Why do we always shoot ourselves in the foot? I pray it's only for 10 games, Ayew and Schlupp to start every game, wonder what the odds are?

There won't be two up front. This is Roy. Defend first, possibly score sometime

He favourite formation is a 4-4-2 . He played that mostly in his last spell with us

Happy with the decision as long as it is on the understanding that Roy's tenure is only 10 games regardless of the outcome. He is not the future, but may just be our best chance of still being a PL team next season. Anyone else may require time we haven't got to get to know the players, and get them to understand the plan. Roy's career has generally been at its best in getting modest teams to get more results than they probably should. He's also got Palace in his heart. But if he keeps us up (or even if he doesn't) we can't afford to waste time making respectful noises after the season ends - the next appointment must be ready.
