Would suggest getting the ball forward quicker suits Mateta more than Edouard

My biggest issue with Mateta in the team was that his best asset, and primary (often exclusive) concern was getting on the end of things. In a team not creating anything he is beyond null and void. Pepper the goal like we did yesterday and there may still be justification for his presence.

A massive, memorable and well taken goal yesterday regardless of any wider commentary.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

did another poster say this b4 or is it my idea that we should call him Jean-Philippe 'bad header'? I remember Fulham had their Bobby Zamora song, could do something similar with JPM, although I was hearing a song after the game on Sat about him being 'in the room' - if someone could avail me of the full libretto I'd be grateful.

Yeah I'm with you.

I'm not saying he's the best striker in the world, but the goal on Sat isn't scored by someone with zero ability.

I have always felt that Mateta is the better scorer and that given a run in the team he would start toi score regularly - he showed his potential last season.
Edouarde has different qualities so it is a tough choice.
One of them needs a run in the team - whichever of them it is to be!

Agreed ..Mateta needs a run like any player...took his goal brilliantly...he’s not great in the air but does use his physical attributes better than Eduoard...btw he didn’t miss that header it came off a defender and we were given a corner!!!

I have always felt Mateta is better than Edouard, he moves better, finishes better and seems to be on same wavelength as Zaha(when hes willing to pass).
Never understood why Edouard constantly got the nod over Mateta under PV

But yeah, for both these strikers we need play up the middle as well as wings to give them a chance.

I didn't see any improvement in Edouard. Mateta was only on a few minutes. Guess he'll get a whole game next time. Who is going to buy Edouard is my question? Are Rochdale or Ross County looking for a striker? Is he good enough for them?

Eduoard's last goal in the PL was way back in October. His last goal for our club was in early January in the FA Cup.
He really looked to be a striker devoid of any confidence.

I've had enough of waiting for anything from him. I don't think he has the right attitude plus he's relatively average. As I say, we'll be lucky to offload him.

Since he's been here, I think his longest run of starts is a mere 4 (yes FOUR) - in the latter part of last season. How is he expected to do his job if he isn't given a proper run in the team?
I'm not saying he's the answer to our striker problems, merely that I question if he's been given a proper chance to show what he can do.

One things for sure, he moved a goal nearer Erling Haaland this weekend in the chase for the golden boot

Calm down scarlet. One Swallow doesn't make a summer and 2 touches don't make a President.

Each and every one of us, either at Selhurst or at home whooped with delight when JPM scored, but he's not yet consistent enough to be placed on a pedestal. Moments before he scored he bungled what looked like a certain headed goal.

Unfortunately, neither JPM or OE are strikers in the same mould of, say, Ollie Watkins. At least yesterday we saw more fire and brimstone than we have so far this year and if Roy starts JPM at Leeds, and he scores, then I'll join you in campaigning.

I won't remind you of last year at Leeds, but Mateta was on the pitch and that was about all. Don't get too excited, but Im with you all in hoping he scores a hatrick up there.

But let's not take it away from him, that goal on saturday was awesome. His deft control followed by his assertive shot in the very last minute showed us all what he can do. Now start doing that every game. For a big man although inconsistent, his ball control can be brilliant.
