Surely given the way honours are dished out confetti it’s time a true gent who has given great service to football and is a great argument against ageism in society in general, must deserve a knighthood.

I understand the sentiment, but you might be pushing it to suggests a knighthood. But,there's no doubt Roy has done wonders by simply releasing the talent our team has in abundance. I don't think he's done much more than make them believe in themselves after the long spell of poor results under PV. You can tell from some of the players comments that he's gone back to basics on the training ground and then reminded them how good they are. It does make me chuckle when I read all the words of praise that have been written (and spoken) about Roy since his return when I think of the hateful venom that was spewed out on here by some folk towards the end of his last time in charge. How fickle a footy supporter can be. Roy is a true gent, a first class coach,a football man through and through and, most of all, dyed in the wool Palace. We're lucky to have him back. Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I understand the sentiment, but you might be pushing it to suggests a knighthood. But,there's no doubt Roy has done wonders by simply releasing the talent our team has in abundance.

So on the contrary, I can think of few more deserving candidates for the honour. Bear in mind; 1. He's been a fantastic ambassador for the country. One of the very first British managers to establish himself overseas. Respected as "best of British" wherever he's gone. 2. He's managed the national team, successfully or not. 3. His contribution to the national game over a very long time is immense. 4. In a field often short of dignity and integrity, he's been a standard-bearer for both. 5. What he's doing now, though no one's openly said it, is very much providing an example in a nation with an aging population that seniors have a great deal still to offer. I can think of relative few people, and certainly almost none in sports, who are more deserving of a knighthood than Roy. Given what the honour is supposed to be for, Roy checks all the boxes and in my view should be a shoe-in. Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

1. He's been a fantastic ambassador for the country. One of the very first British managers to establish himself overseas. Respected as "best of British" wherever he's gone.

4. In a field often short of dignity and integrity, he's been a standard-bearer for both.

5. What he's doing now, though no one's openly said it, is very much providing an example in a nation with an aging population that seniors have a great deal still to offer.

I have always been a supporter of Roy at Palace, even when he had a mediocre bunch of players to work with and it amuses me how he has gone from zero to hero in the eyes of many who were once so critical. OK Syd, I concede you make good points and a reasonable case for consideration. I have always been a supporter of Roy at Palace, even when he had a mediocre bunch of players to work with and it amuses me how he has gone from zero to hero in the eyes of many who were once so critical.
