£40m over 4 years - good value??

Firstly , let's get the figures correct. Add on employer national insurance of 13.8% and 52 weeks not 50 and it's over £47m.

Then factor in the impact on wages across the squad. Every agent will be knocking on SP's door asking for a payrise. If Wilf is on £200k then surely our core performers should be on at least half. Guehi, Olise and Eze etc will get big pay rises as a consequence.

Why is Wilf on £130k? Because the donkey Benteke was on £120k and Wilf is clearly better. His agent demanded an increase.

Palace's wages have been far too high for our revenues for the last 5 or so years. That's the Benteke/Sakho effect.
The same will happen if Wilf does re-sign on the wages that have been quoted.

I suggest you take your rose-tinted spectacles off.

1. Wilf has scored just ONE goal since the World Cup and provided just 3 assists all season (which for a wide player is poor (compare with Olise's 11 assists).

2. As has already been mentioned, he failed to score against Forest in the away game.

3, We have performed well during these last 10 games when he has been largely absent.

Given the above, where is your evidence that his presence last Sunday "would have made a total difference"?

Furthermore, your suggestion that his presence would add 20 points to our total is IMHO laughable.

It is vital that the club continues to realign its wage structure to a sustainable level and giving Zaha £200k a week will undermine that.

Having said all that, I would not be averse to Zaha staying BUT IMO, it should be on a LOWER wage (to reflect his reducing contribution) and for no more than 2 years.

Zaha is rightly considered one of the club's greatest ever attacking players (if not the greatest) and we owed our continued existence in the PL for most of the current spell largely to his contributions BUT he is no longer indispensable and it is probably best if he moves on to a team who will be playing European competition next season so he can have a chance to realize his dream.

As for Palace, we need to move on and show (as we have been doing in recent games) that we can function well enough without Zaha.

After all, the club's future lies in the likes of Eze, Olise, Guehi etc. Zaha is increasingly the club's past.

Never mind. The club isn't obliged to renew his contract, it's over. Maybe the BBC are looking for new presenters for MOTD...

Right on the money. If he stays now he should be paid in line with our policies.

Scott Banks is already 21 and has had an ok season in League 2, maybe we can see if he’s ready to be ‘unleashed’ on League 1 before we build the team around him? But thanks, it made me laugh this morning.
