I cannot understand why these rich players with already more money than they can spend, go to such a place for 2/3 years, it saddens me that they think this way, Wilf already has a net worth of 47m, i know it hasn't happened yet, and he sees sense and goes for a club in the champions league.

Offers are quite insane. Benzema will earn the amount he had earned in Madrid (for more than a decade) in just 2 years with a very mild match calendar.

Human nature - there is always a bigger/better phone, car, house, yacht, football club to buy. It’s only seems ‘more than they can spend’ to us as we are not as far along that path. But to most of the world’s population our incomes would appear to be ‘far more than we can spend’.

I can never understand why people cant understand it.

If it was a normal dude, getting closer to retirement age, offered bumper pay out and an easier schedule. The would take it.

It doesn't really matter how much they have earned previously, the opportunity to further upgrade the lifestyle is hard to resist

It’s always easy to judge players but they may have big ambitions after football to set up companies etc so just want more money to do it. I’v no problem with it at all.

Did anyone suggest that??? Has he been doing that for six years? And did I suggest an increase in his salary or not?

I could see him going to Atletico Madrid, good league, champions league football. But I suppose £50 million to play out in the desert could be a tad tempting

Whatever happens ,Wilf is already a multimillionaire, but as some point out he already has interests beyond the game, and his ambition in that area could be never ending.
If he wants the biggest best offer good luck to him, he has served , and most of all entertained us well. Just hurry up and make his mind up and let Palace be Palace, and Wilf, be Wilf. Nothing lasts forever, I am one who would like to be able to watch him play for us. But only if the club can afford to use him on the basis he is affordable, value for money, and on the training ground ,changing room ,playing surface , not a source of discontent in the rest of the squad.

Oh I see. How much of a pay cut (vs what Athletico are offering) would you say his love is worth?

If i had 47m in the bank, i would play for just the love of the club, but maybe i am silly.

I don’t know what wave length you are on MD, but nowhere do I suggest Wilf simply has to take a wage cut . What I suggest is that if Athletico, or the Arabs, or anyone else offer him substantially more than Palace , then you can only suppose the love of Palace, plays the major part in him staying with Palace. Your question actually applies more to Wilf, than me

No doubt I'll be in a minority of one here and be widely ridiculed but the problem I'd have is anyone playing football for this murderous regime.

I wonder what the would've been wife of Jamal Kashoggi makes of all this.

I suppose if you give people enough money, they're able to forget anything.

It’s a good point, that not to much is being made of. But morality rarely survives long when the cash returns can be counted. In multiples of a million pounds..
Sport seems unable to resist being bought, regardless of any moral question.
Don’t take that hat off yet though.
