It could be that Zaha is still a big enough revenue generator for the club (eg shirt sales, sponsorship, etc) that they deem a bigger contract to be justified irrespective of the football side.

Taking the financials out of the equation, as it stands we don't seem to have a left winger waiting in the wings to replace him and we have not been linked with anyone who is close to being good enough to replace him. It may be the club have looked around and decided offering a new deal is by far the best option.

The reason I would still want him to stay is his tremendous desire to win. I love Eze and Olise but they don't seem to thrive when the chips are down and have not shown themselves to be scrappers. Wilf has more hunger, albeit this sometimes overspills into his emotions getting away from him.

Well according to Talks***e Zaha is staying

Glad to hear it but a bit embarrassing for him. I guess all those stories of big clubs fighting to sign him were just that stories.

If true, utter madness, i can see Guehi, Andersen, Eze and Olise in the queue outside Parishs office already, i think also embarrassing for Parish too.

Agreed. For team morale this is a disaster in the making. Whatever happened to the "1 year extension for players over 30" rule? Was that just hearsay to justify the departure of Kouyate who wanted a 2 year extension?

I dunno sounds alright to me . Works out at about £40m over 4 years . Equivilent to buying a player for 20 mill and paying them 100,000 K a week or about what Edouard cost ? I know who I would rather have

And we still need a striker

In all sincerity whilst we all have the clubs best interests as our priority, and we are therefore inclined to worry about the money, there’s plenty of it in football and it’s not our own..

So with that in mind, the stand alone question of which shirt I’d like to see Wilf wearing next season is pretty easy to answer for me.

A wildly uninformed and speculative statement but perhaps he may be encouraged to stay on the basis of reassurances of further investment in teammates too? I’m sure the bumper pay packet helps however could be more to it?

If so, his mind may be more settled and he still seems capable of leaving half a PL team’s defence staring in the opposite direction whilst putting a ball across the face of goal for Eze to finish so hopefully we see more of that!

I cant envisage any situation where my love and gratitude for Wilf will dramatically disappear so good news as far as I’m concerned.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I guess Wilf has done enough for the club to warrant this offer, it’s not a given that the younger players will instantly demand more cash, they can see he’s a legend and maybe feel he’s earned the right to be offered it. We will see.

you are using the Edouard analagy, which is correct, but Guehi, Eze and Olise cost less than 40m, and their combined wages is already about the same as Wilfs 130k a week.

Last night in a Public House I overheard some gentleman opine that a 4 year contract and £200K a week to a "Fading force" in his 30s who has started to collect injuries was "Bonkers" !

I do not know this chap, I was with my dear wife and I never commented as she often complains that I get embroiled in football conversations in her company leaving her to resort to looking at her phone !

Whilst a very poignant consideration for matters Lanzo I can't help but wonder how critical Wilf is to all these players in terms of an identity for Palace, perhaps senior leadership within the team and their confidence?

IMHO there's no need to discuss further the likes of Marc, Olise and Ebz's talents, we all know how good they are. We have also seen however, under PV, how fragile they can look if there's big trouble in little China especially given their youth.

Wilf may just be the glue that holds the team together and the rock upon which they flourish. That's all a bit romantic however may not be without substance. Even if not quite the sensational dynamo of a footballer he was a few years ago he surely brings something to the squad alongside a still pretty capable and valuable skillset.

Wilfried Zaha, the boy who cried wolf. In his comfort zone at a club that he never really wanted to leave. Can hold his hamstring at anytime and have a few games rest. Nice little earner.
I'm not talking about what he's done for the club in the past which is there for all to see, I'm talking about what he offers in the present and the future from a footballing and economic standpoint.

If we get 'heroic' Wilf for four years then £200k per week is a bargain.

If we get injured/sulky Wilf for four years then £200k could significantly damage the club's finances, especially if we get r*legated.

Probably somewhere in between.

He's our GOAT. I hope he stays.
