How were they reading the Daily Mail?

Go back far enough and our ancestors were all immigrants. Many of us don't actually need to go that far.

You don't seem to understand that large influxs of immigrants weren't accepted then or now. That only ever came about by invasion, which would require war.

What you push literally provokes reduced social cohesion.

By living in Cornwall you do not live your principles.....'Social cohesion for me, not for thee'

No-one denies the figures. It's how you respond which is where the differences lie.

I thought, by the way, that you were suggesting that an increase in the crime rates was down to immigration.

In my experience it's a contributory factor but the claim is that the NHS can't cope without importing more people whereas the country can't cope with the increasing demand for housing, healthcare, school places, etc as it is.

in both the UK and Ireland we have Governments doing deliberately the opposite to what the electorate asked for.

You don’t understand that I am I’m not pushing anything. You can only push an alternative and there isn’t one that’s practical or realistic.

That immigration has always created problems doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or that, in time, they were overcome and a new normal was established. This isn’t any different. The only difference is it’s the likes of you who do the moaning.

How many times must I reiterate that where I live has no bearing on what I believe. I can think anywhere and have lived in many places both in the UK and overseas before retiring here, as many do. I left south London 60 years ago. For work originally but also because housing was cheaper elsewhere. I would not want to live there again, but not because of ethnic diversity. I don’t like frenetic cities and prefer the tranquility of rural life. Who are my neighbours matters not at all, so long as they are peaceful and respectful.

You live in Wisbech, which unless it has changed dramatically since I was there, is a pretty sleepy place, surrounded by Fens and big skies. It had it’s fair share of immigrant labour, mostly from Eastern Europe working in the food factories and farms and whilst this did give rise to some local issues on occasions, my own experience of the incomers was always positive. They showed respect. Turned up on time and paid their bills.

It might have provided by me but was to the recent ONS data. If you don’t read it yourself but rely on what the likes of the Mail says it says you only have yourself to blame.

I don’t know the state of current opinion in Ireland but in the UK it seems there has been quite a dramatic reversal of opinion, according to a recent poll. So I don’t think your assertion stands up.

In any case it’s not the job of government to do what the electorate ask for. If that were true we would be bankrupt in no time. Their job is to deliver what they collectively believe to be what we need.

I don't read any newspapers - presumably you are a Daily Mail reader if you think they made up the figures.

The ONS published the 2021 census findings and they show that 93.6% of the Cornish population are "White (Cornish/English/Welsh/Scottish/Northern Ireland/British)".

If you don't accept the ONS figures what are your figures?
