Ban Smoking

As I have posted before smoking brings in 7 billion pounds. Smoking costs the NHS 1.5 billion. You work it out. I will be glad when the non-smokers have to start paying more in income tax to cover this deficit. Do all non-smokers think that this persecution will stop with smoking? First hunting, then smoking, what next alcohol, cars in city centres then on country roads, then on motorways? This Government has it in mind to make this country into a state where freedom for people to enjoy what they want to enjoy is banned. Think of the jobs and income that have been lost in New York and Dublin due to the bans.

Smokers will suffer most. If they had more respect for non smokers then there would be no need to ban it from most places. Smoking will be banned from all or most public places before too long. I am longing for that day. If smokers could just be more considerate at football and hold out for 45 mins Im sure most non smokers would respect them for this too. We all have vices but this one clearly affects people directly. I want CPFC fans to bring more children to the game and if banning smoking helps then all the better. Im sure smoking is now a minority habit in our daily lives (apart from silly young teenage girls). So lets all have a thought for each other and respect our health. As for moving stands its not possible for me to as other places are full and I dont want to sit in the back corner somewhere, If you feel like that, then perhaps football is the wrong sport for you. I hope you shall be lobbying a ban on swearing at football aswell.

How can football be the wrong sport for me because Im a non smoker? confused!! Im just discusing the possibility of banning smoking during the game, thats all. As Ive said before it means smokers only have to hold out for 45mins max. Why cant you compromise a little bit?

Because we're already being limited in the parts of the ground we can smoke....thats the compromise. Football is a game which attracts a large male following, a following who smoke, drink and swear, it's been like this for years and all of a sudden people want this changed. You have your areas of the ground you can sit smoke free, if you don't like that you have to put up with the smoke, if you don't like that then tough. Just out of interest, if we were to delay our smoking till half time, where would we go and smoke?

I disagree. Most people these days don`t smoke/swear or drink in excess thats why smokings becoming restricted (obvious observation I would have thought). Football crowds have increased greatly since the days of anti social behaviour such as fighting/excessive swearing and drinking which is restricted to bar areas. So its obviuos these measures work and are helping the game. If you must smoke why not hold out till HT. One question, How do you cope on long fights/train journeys etc...?

But as you can see from this thread you are in the minority who really has a problem with it. In your view should smokers get a vote aswell? I can see your point, i'm not totally unreasonable, thats why i restrict my smoking to smoking areas of the ground, maybe i could hold out until half time, but i don't want to. I sit in an area where i have the choice to smoke when i like, watching Palace can be particually stressful, so i will smoke when i can. Smokers arn't scum, we're people with an addiction slowly killing ourselves. We're not killing you, or anyone else around us because that is not how passive smoking takes effect, the smoke inhaled whilst sitting next to a smoker outside is so small, that is does not make a difference. If your uncomfortable with the smell, then that is unfortunate but unavoidable. When i gave up smoking, people smoking around me didn't bother me, i thought to myself just because i;d given up it doesn't mean the whole world has to aswell. I know people have habits that annoy me, but you have to live with them, in a tolerant society as we are(or maybe as we used to be) people do things that we dislike, but you can't stop someone from doing something unless it's illegal.

Having never smoked I am not bothered if it gets banned or not. I think some smokers attitude to smoking is wrong thinking they have the right to light up anywhere they want. It’s all about common decency. If you are sitting in a restaurant and have just finished your meal don’t light up if the table next to you have just started theirs.

E, having been out with me and other on numerous occasions, you know i am a considerate smoker. I always ask if it's ok with everyone that i smoke at the Table, and will never do it if someone is eating.

Its all about respect and consideration for others at the end of the day. Yes, most smokers now are more considerate. At the end of the day it won`t stop me watching Palace and I understand it probably helps you relieve the stress we have to suffer!

I think we have to agree to disagree premier fan. Consideration goes a long way, a bit of respect goes even further, a bit of this from both sides and there isn't a problem!

I don't suppose its fair to tar everyone with the same brush but then again its a bit unfair that some on here label all non-smokers as ignorant etc etc
