They were just there. I told you it would take time to understand it. If you just accept the fact that they were there then youll understand.

E

science requires a leap of faith as well when it comes to the basic prnciples of how it all began. in this respect, science and religion are bedfellows in the initial stages of belief.

after that, science has a complex tapestry of evolution that realistically explains the evolution of humankind. on the other hand, christians have the bible; full of allegorical stories, many contradictions, and warped meanings through translation.

both equire a leap of faith and an element of giving yourself up to whatever you see as the more likely or the one which suits your objectives the best. I'm not saying either is right or wrong, but the fact remains that chritianity is a much bigger leap of faith.

All Chance, Direction, which thou canst not see;
All Discord, Harmony, not understood;
All partial Evil, universal Good

With the Adam and Eve thing, if they were both white how did we black people come along?

I doubt very much that they were white, the bible certainly doesn't say so.

Here's my tuppence worth

I'm not a great believer in religion in general. This may be due to the fact that i'm more scientifically natured, or it may not be. I have nothing against religion in itself, just (from experience) with people forcing it upon others saying things like "this is what you must believe, there is no alternative".

As such I personally believe in the Big Bang. Reactions between particles resulted in a vast release of energy and the world was created slowly but surely out of these particles merging together to form solids (eventually the planets). A similar process is still going on inside stars.

I believe the world has evolved from this situation at what i would call time 0. Yes, these particles must have come from somewhere and that i cannot answer.

Anyway, that is my take on the situation

Hi Guys, here's my views on the subject.

I'm with Marx on this one i'm afraid, and agree with his statement that religion is the opium of the masses, and was created by those in power to divert peoples attention away from what was really going on in the world, and give them something to aim for - the promise of eternal life in heaven.

I dont believe in God or the Big Bang. The main thing which i dislike about Christianity is that it is a conversion religion and aims to get as many new members as possible, which i think is wrong.

I dont believe in religion, i believe in ways of life, and leaning by experience to build your own moral code of behaviour.

If you believe in Christianity, surely you must also believe that you do not have free will? and that all you actions are predetermined?

personally, i cant get my head around the Bible, and i really think that it was not supposed to be taken literally but it was meant to by symbolic, i find it bizarre that people live their lives so closely to religion, when life is so short.

in conclusion, religion is the biggest con going, and i cant believe so many people have bought into it. Sorry if this offends anyone, i dont mean to, its just the way i feel about it

No you don't. I hate religion, so did Jesus.

Religion is what gets in the way of faith.

Jesus didn't like the judgemental pharisees, and was all against legalism and religion.

Religion is following a set of rules to try to please other religious people or even to try to please god, but true faith and a relationship with your creator is something much more beautiful.

I don't call myself religious, because it makes people think I am judgemental and hypocritical. I am a Christian, but I don't think the Bible teaches religion, it just teaches how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

MattWebb thats rubbish! You are an active member of the Christian religion, and you have to have faith in Christianity, which is its very essence. These sets of rules as you call it are fundamental to Christianity, and as you said before, if you dont believe in the fundamentals of christianity you cannot be a proper christian. Faith goes hand in hand with religion, they are not two seperable entities in my opinion
