In recent times, the 0-0 draw with WBA at home in the 95/96 (I think) season. An absolute shocker. Nothing happened. About one shot on goal each (off target) and a lot of long ball zzzzzzzzzzz. The only highlight was when the ball went into the stand and, for the first and only time in my life, I actually caught it.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

The home match vs Wimbldon in the eighties during the Noades out era when a fan ran accross the pitch and climbed into the directors box to land a punch on Noades after the fifth goal went in!

Preston qay under Smith i don`t think we had one shot on target and never got out of our half.
I was chatting to a bloke from Yorkshire who had travelled from Leeds and we both walked out 20 mins from the end.

I heard Blackburn away was bad though this season and after 450 phone calls from my brother who was begging me to go as he had the day off and nearly got me until i said nope we will be negative and lose 1-0.

I`ve been to quite a few dull affairs at Palace over the years but i think losing to Liverpool 6-1 on our opening home fixture in 1994 beats them all. I also think our numerous defeats against Shrewsbury go along way to beating as the worst.

How wierd was that ? I remember I used to meet up with my mates in the pub prior to the game and we used to talk about how we would suffer yet another defeat because it seemed inevitable every time we played them.

Another one for the oldies 0-0 versus Birmingham in about 1970-71 ish. In recent times how about the FA Cup loss on a Friday night at Cambridge. Pissed with rain, stood in a puddle when the water went over my feet and to cap it all, some drunken Palace oik puked up on my trousers as he was walking past me on the way out, and I had to endure the smell of sick all the way home. Happy days!

I'd rather support Palace than my ex missus. Come to think of it I'd rather support Brighton than my ex-missus.

I remember that, when Smithy went a bit mad and started transfer listing everyone. As I remember though it did the trick and we started playing well after that. Or has my damaged-by-Palace brain deluded me again?

No that was right. He also told a story to the players of how Kolinko's sister had been raped (obviously he couldn't speak English) and attacked by a bear in Latvia..Very strange, but yes it did the trick...for about six games!

Erm hang on a minute?! Raped and attacked by a bear? So Smith told the players that about Kolinko's sister because he wanted to take the pressure off him after the mistake he made? And the bear couldn't speak English? Ok I'm only playing with the last one but that's bizarre! I never knew that! Anyone know any more about this...I'm fascinated now!

As far as worst games go... not entirely sure what season...maybe 93-94?...but home against Southend when the game was SOOO dull and then Simon Rodger woke everyone up right at the end with a great (although perhaps slightly flukey) dipping shot from about 30 yrds!

Does anyone else remember that game? Or did i just dream it?

This was the first game I thought of. You can add the numerous defeats to Shrewsbury around this time.

Saw plenty of dire games when Smith and Francis were in charge but there were so many individual games do not stand out except for the Wolves game and the season tickets.

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like.

Palace at home to Sheffield Wednesday in February 2003.

Nil nil, dire game, the only shot on goal came in the 87th minute where Danny Granville lashed one from 30 yards in sheer frustration into the Holmesdale Lower, Block H, Row 28.....

Was that the evening game?

If so, I went to that and I agree - absolute toilet.

just 4 u left handed eagle a quote from a HOL article over 2 years ago from smith:

"I made up a story about Alex Kolinko, who had been in tears after the game. I said he came from the poorest mountain village in Latvia where he had to fight bears when he was eight.

"I said his grandparents had been shot by the Nazis, his mother had died of cancer and his sister was raped by a gang of mountain rebels. But he never shed a single tear because he was strong and brave.

"Then I told them that one month playing behind our defence had turned him into a blubbering wreck! The players didn't know what to say. Except Clinton Morrison - he said, 'It's a shame about his sister'."

as for worst game cant remember which it was but it was so poor i threw my season ticket on the pitch (from the holmesdale lower)- end of season i was only 12 at the time

A 1-0 defeat at Port Vale during the Goldberg era. Just miserable.
