What makes you think race riots and suicide bombers are naturally the product of multicultural society then?

'Multicultural' means 'the existence of several cultures within a society', 'several' means 'some' or 'more than one', so with that in mind, come on then, let's hear it, how the f*** can you have a race riot in a monocultural society I'm intrigued!

Why are we assuming that people of different race are necessarily of different culture?

Because, in many cases, they are! People originating from the Indian sub-continent certainly are! Can you not see that?

What like tea drinking, cricket playing, English speaking people from India???

A very small percentage of the total, you'll find.

But not as small as the percentage of people who support Al Qaeda. So how does one "very small percentage" define an entire group, where another is dismissed as irrelevant? It all looks a little too expedient to me.

Quote halfmanhalfslug at 14 Jul 2005 9:01am

If you want to know who linked Iraq with the war on terror, it was Bush and Blair, as I recall. The Iraq thing is a whole long story that goes way back though, before 9/11, before the Kuwait war, before even Saddam. We've been meddling in that part of the world for far too long. It needs an entirely new thread just to get started on Iraq.

Furry, you speak the truth pal. Aside from petty arguments with little boys that can only express themselves through anger and violence, the overriding message I get from this thread is just what you say :"acceptance of others needs to be practised by all"... right now, the only special treatment the immigrants seem to be getting is suspicion, spite and (in some awful cases) being beaten to death for being Muslim by people who think they are a threat to "British culture".

If British culture is beating people to death, I want none of it. There is plenty to be proud of in this country, but it doesn't mean we should wear rose-tinted glasses and dream about warm beer and village cricket. We have big problems here with some people not mixing with the rest of society, and some people not accepting people into society. They all need their thick heads banging together.

HMHS, I am glad you got the gist of my post.

On the case of Iraq, yes it was Blair & Bush who linked it with the war on terror but the last I saw they were not the ones on here posting that Iraq was the reason we were targeted we were along time before then, 9/11 was just to highlight this point.

The British culture is not to beat people up because they are not "British" with the exception of the French!!! It is to be proud of who we are, to stand up for what is right, to watch us get stuffed in the ashes whilst no longer drinking warm beer but getting a cold larger. We have minority thugs in our midst who do not do us justice of being British, but I ask does every culture not have these, I am sure they do. As long as the majority of us do not follow them but stand up to them & denounce them we keep the high ground.

To talk of us meddeling in the Middle East for to long how far back do you want to go? The crusades? Can I ask where you think Western Policy is wrong to the Arab world, excluding Iraq & Afgan which I think I understand your view on.

If we all tolerated each other the world would be a better place & this is not confined to this little island of ours but to Arabs, Muslism's, Jews, Jedi Knights & so on.

I said that the tea drinking, cricket playing English speaking people from India form a relatively small percentage of that population. My point is that the prevailing culture in the Indian sub-continent is alien to our own. I made no further generalisation than that, no matter how hard you try to find one.

Is anyone else a bit pissed off with Blair coming out and now saying he's going to deport imams who preach hate and the Muslim MPs who say that it's time for the community to root out the extremists?

These people kept on telling us that an attack was coming. It was called inevitable. Why on earth did it take the death of so many for Blair and co. to wake up?

He should have been sorting this out before. The community should have been informing on these loonies before.

The EU after Madrid decided to implement many anti-terror laws. 2/3 haven't been implemented.

Why all the action now? Did it take the loss of so many innocent lives for those in power to take the threat seriously?

The problem is people are intolerent & when they should make a stand they do not.

Let me put a few things into the is discussion

I am going on holiday to Turkey this year.

If I wear a fez I will be arrested or beaten as it is an insult.
If my wife goes topless she will be arrested.
If we do these we know what will happen in Turkey.

In the UK
The leader of the BNP is arrested & charged for expressing his view in private with a reporter/copper I can't remember which (I do not agree)
In Finsbury Park Abu Hamza expressed his anti-british views in public, no arrest
Someone has know taken over from him no arrest.
Eventually someone will lose there temper & it will kick off down there & the preacher will be given all the protection in the world & by the way these guys a sponging off us in dole money & handouts without good reason (not racist, I would have the same view on a white person before you say)

We should as humans be tolerant this is not a purely white thing, if people do not want to intergarte that is up to them that is what makes us a free society, but you must respect the laws & values of those around you & not force your opions on them.

No but it probably takes a bomb to shut up Liberty and Shami Chakrabahti and all the Lib dem types who complain about civil liberties arguments.

Come to think of it cpfc-rjd - you echoed their arguments on the ID cards debate.

Is that officially a flip flop by your good self?

I don't see your point. Most countries around the world have trains, curries and a system of law!
