My dad took me to see them in 1972, can't remember who we played but it was a 1-1 draw. Been supporting them ever since. I remember having a Mars bar at half time which tasted of mint, (the catering hasn't improved). Seen good times, Wright, Bright, FA Cup finals, promotions and bad, Langley, Jones, relegations, losing 5-0 at home to Wimbledon (probably why I'm enjoying their demise so greatly now, although I should feel guilty, I dont). I will always be red n blue.

I was born and bred in Peterborough, and went to see them quite regular as a kid, but when i was 11/12 i was taken to see Palace play Derby at Selhurst (1980 - team of the '80's and all that). Gordon Hill was playing for Derby (ex Moan Utd) and he was a hero of mine up till then. Anyway Hill got sent off in the 1st half, and Palace won 4-0 with Vince Hilaire playing a blinder. The rest is history and i've stuck with them despite all the stick ever since. Don't get to go to many games due to work/distance/family. I've often wondered how different things would have been if Derby had won that day..........it just wouldn't have been the same...

Because when I was 7,I wanted to upset my Dad and it stuck for the last 20 years.Palace were my choice because i'm from Sussex originally. Many of you may not consider me to be real Palace because of my armchair status, but I dont care what others say,I know who I love....so there.

My dad is from Forest hill and didn't have much else to choose from, and after meeting my mum who's dad supported Palace kept going to gsmes together.
I was a young Liverpool fan until my brother converted me in the mid to late seventies.
I eventually ended up sitting with my mum in the old stand with a seasin ticket in 79/80 season, although i had been to loads of games with my family before.
Once converted from a red no nothing little s*** there was no going back!
Thanks Bruv!

Just asked my 4 year old son why he supports Palace, he said "'cos the wear red and blue just like my pyjamas"

LOL that is proper quality

i did consider supporting arsenal at one point... but only cos they had the word "arse" in their name.... ah the immaturity...

_________

I considered sc*nthorpe for very similar reasons

Been a fan since about the age of 10 - first match was against the squatters, we won 3-2 and nige got sent off so salad went in goal.

Started supporting them because my old man did and he took me to the above game which was my first ever match. I will support them 'til I die, and I've already instilled the family tradition to my 3 week old daughter, who has to have a palace sleep suit as they don't do kits for new born babies. Sort it out Jordan, if you want to make some money, flog kits that fit babies under a year to 18 months old......

Me and my mate jumped on a 68 bus at the top of Knights Hill, at the start of the 67 season and ended up outside selhurst Park!!both 9 year old kids and thought this looks good lets go in. I think we played Cardiff City, and won 4-1. we sat on the grass bank at the whitehorse lane end!
The next time Palace played a few more of me mates from the 3 estates at Crown point came along and that was it, we were hooked.
The mate who went along with me the first time also supported Moan u as he saw them win the european cup on tele, and has stayed with them 2 of the others still go with me season ticket holders top tier Holmesdale.

In those early days where we lived it was either Palace or Chelsea, simple as that, there was no crap from the North, this has come about by putting these teams on tele to much. another comment on this thread mentioned 93/94 when we was on the box a lot i think we gained a few supporters then,
i Even had a mate from scotland lodge at my mums for about 2 years, and he became hooked, even to this day he tries to make the games when we are away up north

Never a dull moment supporting the palace
Anyone remember the old spannish/italian lady walking through the Holmesdale, shouting roasted peanuts sixpence a bag only, (i must be sad remembering that)

rub a dub dub who's buying the next round in the Pub?

Bloody 'ell that brought back some memories, I was a kid around Crown Point, I went to Crown Lane school and lived on Portobello estate until the age of 10 or 11 and it's true, EVERYONE was either Palace or Chelsea, the first match I ever went to was exactly the way you described yours, we had Red Bus Rover tickets and jumped on a 68 at Crown Point, I can't remember who Palace played or what the score was, but we sat at the top of the Holmesdale and I remember it was all dirt and tufts of grass, but it was wonderful, it would have been around 1972/73 I would think.
Right I'm off to Norwich to see the boys stuff the budgie scum and sink a few wets, COME ON PALACE!
