The fact that we are not French.

We are a little bit French, a lot of German, a bit Nordic and a small part "native" British. Multi cultural lot!

As for British food, only British people like it, with the possible exception of Fish and Chips.

A lot of good reasons on here, though.

P.S. Just realised this thread's been kicking about for quite some time!

Spelling and grammar being a matter of national pride.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

British Rail, when it existed.

Bring back BR. The railways would be far, far better under a new BR.

Obviously, you don't remember them.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Curry!!

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Yes your grasp of the language is impressive.

Very disppointed at some of the anti - Welsh / Scottish & Irish comments. Being English in itself is all about being a mixture of god knows how many nationalities.

I am proud to be Welsh but I am also proud to be British we all as a nation have achieved far more than a lot of countries that are a great deal larger than us.

My single biggest reason for being proud of being British is that as a nation, we faced down the Nazis in 1939 when we could have easily taken the soft option and appeased Hitler. If we hadn't we would now live in a very different world.

We are also defined by our manners.

They were better than what we have now. In the good times tax payer subsidies going striaght into shareholders pockets, in the bad times the companies can just walk away. Daylight robbery.
