Let me start by saying i have never smoked tobacco let alone cannabis. However 10 years ago I spent a number of weeks as an inpatient on mental health ward with serious post natal depression . It was a mixed sex assessment ward and the majority of the people I spoke to whilst there had recent history of cannabis use which they all agreed had contributed to or exacerbated their mental health problems. Therefore to say it doesn't do any harm to anyone is wrong. It does and it can be serious with long lasting implications. I do feel it should be allowed to be used in a controlled way for pain relief in hospitals or for people with acute medical conditions.

There's absolutely no evidence to suggest that cannabis leads to mental health issues - the most damning evidence against this assertion is that cannabis use has gone up exponentially in the last 50 years, and all the mental health diseases that cannabis supposedly contributes to have remained at moreorless the same level - if way more people are smoking weed now than ever before, surely there would be more mentally unwell people? Most people who suffer with mental health issues will turn to cannabis (or other drugs) as an attempt to help their problems, which is why you encountered so many - but there's no factual correlation between smoking weed and mental health. Also, I don't think anyone is suggesting it can't do any harm - like countless legal drugs, over or mis-use can lead to problems, but it's still far less damaging then alcohol or tobacco.

My girlfriend is in Canada at the moment and took delivery this week of a half ounce of high quality, well grown, organic cannabis to her door. Much healthier, cheaper, and more responsibly sourced than anything you could get off the street here. It doesn't have to be an Amsterdam style situation. Also, if alcohol is openly sold and encouraged, then why should I be a criminal for smoking a joint and playing Fifa in my pants ? If I'm high, I am proactively avoiding confrontation !

Why don't I have a go on the heroin!" I agree with your above post though about the mental health issues. I've noticed that whilst "under the influence" I get very anxious about small situations, something a lot of my friends have in common with me. Mild paranoia. I think the key word in relation to "green" and any other drug, legal or illegal, is moderation. I would think it's highly unlikely that you'd get schizophrenia for smoking two spliffs on a saturday night every week. People suffer long term effects when these substances are abused. Alcohol - End up living in a park Legalise um all, tax um all. Make money, cut crime and everyone's safer and happier, no???
