My first game was the preceding one against Middlesboro 0-0, aged 8. remember I was on the Holmsdale but I have no recollection of the Arthur being built

It was started straight after promotion and was completed for the first top flight home game against Man Utd.Arthur Wait's building firm were involved in it's construction.
All done in about 3 months incredible really.

Isn't this the footage of the building work in process? (posted earlier in this thread)

That's it Bubbs, enjoyed watching that,a right blast from the past and takes me way back.Arthur Wait was always walking around the sight and gave the guys a bonus for getting it finished in time.
It seemed at the time that every local Bricky around was working there.

........................Then along came Johnny Byrne! and the rest, as they say, is history.....................

That vicious metal seperation fence they are putting up is still there. It looks exactly the same as anyway. Wonder if it is the same one ? Nerd alert!

Does anyone have any photos of "The Last Stand", the last game before the old Holmesdale Terrace was turned into the stand it now is.

I was at the match, had a ticket with my name printed on it and got a photo from the Addy special edition at the time. I've since lost both.

It would be great to see the photo again.

i will have a look thru my photos, ive got one but its taken of the prints in the red n' blur bar.

great day that...didnt uncle ron come onto the pitch afterwards with a microphone telling all the "mindless b******s" who ran onto th pitch to get back into the stands.

Was that Watford?

Yes. We lost 2-0 but had won the league already. Noades was interviewed live before the game infront of the Holmesdale and actually choked up with tears!

Does anyone know if the club has an archive or is it just us fans that hoard stuff.
Would be great to see a permanent club museum at the ground maybe the swimming pool under the Holmsdale would be a good place

1969 Palace 3 Fulham 2

According to the caption, this happened before the kick-off!

If i'm not mistaken that is Chris Wright.
What ever happened to him?

wondering when The Whitehorse Terrace was built and The Arthur Waite and what would have been the capacity at SP? I presume the AW must have been built in the very early 70s.

I think the AW stand was built in the close season 1968/69 after the Fulham game when Palace won promotion to old 1st div. I'm positive it was open for the first game against Man Utd.
