For me personally, I don't want them to come up.
It is the satisfaction of knowing that Palace still have massive bragging rights over brighton who should always be looking up at us. Knowing that they won't have the massive cash injection from the TV deal.
They are so jealous of us and hate to live in our shadow.
If they do come up, we will be on a level par.
For the sake of 2 games a season, i would rather they stay where they are. i wish them no success at all.

As with any rivalry; no matter what the spark that created it, the reason it fosters is due to 'control'. The team with the upper hand in terms of success and league position use it as a way of 'control' on the rival...its a subliminal tool used to make us feel better or them worse...it happens in all walks of life...its natural.

I might be a too wit, but me too woo.

If they do get promoted, so be it, and we'll do our best to do the double over them. But there's no way I would actually wish them one iota of success, just to play them. Plus the idea that, if they do come up, they'll be an easy six points could well bite us on the arse. They have their infrastructure in place already and have a considerably more free-spending chairman than we do. I know that you can't necessarily buy success but, in a head-to-head with them for the same player, if the only issues were price and wages, I wouldn't bet on us winning out.

For me Charlton, man utd and Millwall make far more sense.

That's interesting ...how so the Mancs??? I could understand the other two based on vicinity...

Ok, apologies excepted.Thinking about this overnight, I would like us to play them and grind their faces into the dirt, and if we lose it will make it all the better when we beat them next time. Maybe we could play them in the league and FA cup, because I'd still like them to miss out on that massive windfall, oh the confusion!

This is exactly the point. I would like to get them (early) in every cup competition to knock them down. But no way I want them in the Prem, it's just possible they could be successful and that would be too much to bear.

Hmm, heard of Paul Nixon? Did you go to the FA Cup replay? And it goes back a long way, I remember loathing them back in the early 70s.

Basically after the Cantona kick at Selhurst there was ill feeling between the fans which spilled over and resulted in Paul Nixon being stabbed and killed at a later date by them.

I would hate to see them getting their hands on that money. They could end up being an established top flight team and if we were to yo yo-which hasn't happened for a few years now -it would be hard to stomach. It would be worth seeing them miss out in the play offs just to see them sobbing their little hearts out.

Boro fan here in peace and respect. I don’t know all the history between you and these reptiles but based on Saturday’s evidence you’re spot on. Clueless and cynical on the pitch, boorish in the tech area (did you notice Calderwood’s behaviour ?) and mega-whining afterwards. We’ve all lost big games (Boro more than most) but there’s a level of dignity about how you conduct yourself. Touch of the Newcastles about their nasty, delusional fans too. Now, for the first time ever, I’ve got a club to despise. Looking forward to our meetings next season and good luck in the CF.

Welcome and congratulations, especially pleased for your chairman. Steve Parish reminds me of him. Both local boys done good, doing their best for their team. Might make mistakes but always with the interests of the club and not profit at heart.

Your observations about Brighton are spot on, they have had a sense of entitlement fro some time and I am looking forward to them bottling the play offs yet again.

the dignified don't even enter in the game

Nail on head for me. Several weeks ago the Brighton fans in my office were chatting away about playing Spurs and Liverpool in the Premier League next season like it was a done deal. I actually thought they had a good chance so I bit my tongue. Even after the Boro game I heard one of them crowing about being a Premier League team next season like it would happen.

They were exactly the same when we p*ssed on their chips a few years back. A bit less so going into the Derby County playoff game a couple of years back.

Even putting the rivalry aside (which I admit I haven't entirely!) I don't think I have ever encountered any football fans that are so lacking in humility. I guess when you support a team like Palace you have a much better sense of reality and you learn to never count your chickens. That's why it seems even more incredible listening to Brighton fans sometimes!
