... Back on topic and risking the wrath of the haters. Having read through the whole thread it is obvious to me that the over-riding reason why so many do not want Brighton to go up is because the humiliation should they beat us in the PL will be just too much to take. Their fans maybe obnoxious but we don't have to sink to their level. This is football and as many have decided that Brighton are our main rivals, when it used to be Charlton and Millwall, surely it is logical that we at least enjoy the opportunity of taking 6 points from them next season, if they do go up of course.

Hmmmm, yeah I think you may be overstating things just a tad when we're talking about 4 or so individuals who've expressed that view...hahaha

I will begrudgingly allow Brighton to be promoted in about 10 years time, once we have a shiny new (non-wonky, non-clacker-filled) stadium and are fully established in the Prem. It's nothing about potentially losing to them, but they don't deserve to be rewarded with the money and exposure that is afforded to us through our association with the big league. Maybe after another 10 years of being in the Championship, if they can even manage that, which after a lifetime in the 3rd division is a relative upturn in fortunes for them, it will allow them some time to grow some humility and reality and stop belittling teams like Wednesday, 'Boro, Burnley, Hull, Derby, Ipswich, Birmingham, Preston, QPR, Leeds, Wolves, Blackburn, NottForest, Reading, Bolton, Fulham, Wigan, and even Bristol City, Huddersfield, Cardiff, Brentford, Burton, Barnsley, Coventry, Gillingham, Shef Utd, Port Vale, Peterborough, Bury, Swindon, Oldham, Shrewsbury, Doncaster, Blackpool, Crewe, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Wimbledon, Luton, Hartlepool, NottsCounty, Crawley, Dag&Red, Morecambe, Leyton Orient, Carlisle, Yeovil and indeed Accrington who are infinitely bigger and better clubs with more history and footballing heritage than they are. In fact, I would rather ANY of those clubs were promoted, because I value seeing a decent team with history playing against us, instead of an easy 6 points against the Tinkerbelles every season. Yes a few more years when the now still vivid image of Wilf peeling away from their penalty area whilst the Weeds defenders all look at each other. Not once but twice! Fade a little more in the mind. Then they can come and join us in the big league and we enjoy doing it all again!

Brighton play the first leg on Friday the 13th, unlucky for some, especially if it's the 3 year anniversary of your greatest ever defeat,
Nope it's not my name |

Edited by regal_eagle (10 May 2016 4.14pm) Largely I agree. But I would say that the Seaweeds do have a proper history. In fact it's an older club than ours in its current guise, if you ignore the fact we were really formed in 1861. (Had we won our FA cup semi final replay in 1872 well, who knows. After all, we did have Cuthbert Ottaway.) I doubt, however, that the current crop of weeds that has washed up on the tide of success and a shiny stadium contains many of the 'proper' fans. And so they just don't understand the pain you must go through before your team has a right to some success.

Celtic dates from the 1880s and their adherents - one could hardly call them "fans" - are hardly deserving of success. Same goes for Rangers, but their fortunes have been far more amusing until this season.

Edited by regal_eagle (10 May 2016 4.14pm) I can't contemplate their promotion, even in 10 years time. They'll never get humility but even if they did have some I couldn't bring myself to accept that they are in the premier league - arrogantly belittling even more clubs. Remember Gartside advocating no relegation - they'd be just like that. Horrible. Hopefully Wednesday (Sheffield) will put paid to their dreams for another season. I really hope the Owls beat them in both games of the play offs. I don't care by how many goals, just as long as they don't get any closer. I don't want them to get to Wembley. I don't want them to stay in the Championship next season. I don't want them to survive the next season in League one. Then I'd like to see their bankrolling owner pull the plug, and watch them disappear down the drain. Go on you seagulls! F**k off! Me? Bitter?! Noooo!!!!

Apart from the fact that you are historically incorrect I'm not sure that Brighton fans belittle other clubs that are "infinitely bigger and better clubs" any more than our own fans do after all how often does the idea that fans of XYZ football club are deluded" crop up. According to HOL even West Ham is not a bigger club than Palace. The other aspect worth considering is whether or not we would be in the Premiership at all if it wasn't for the happy accident of having one Wilfried Zaha living in the area and joining our academy as his local club
