Another planning application has been submitted for the Purley Cross site, and this time it's even higher than before. Currently standing at 17 storeys with a combined total of 220 residential units and growing. The proposed build is divided into 3 phases, work starting in Oct 2016 and to be completed in 2021...yes 5 years of building works in the centre of Purley

Totally out of character, ruining the skyline, causing traffic chaos and delays, additional pollution and noise for locals, small local businesses being affected, continual high rise buildings making Purley into an inner city eye-sore, house prices affected, exacerbating the flooding problems for all residents amongst many other negative reasons.

This giant erection is being proposed by the Baptist Church, and part of the plan is to build a new 500 seater church...have they not read about the Tower of Babel??

Please take a few moments to contact Croydon to highlight your objections:

It might not make any difference as this is recommended by the Planning Committee for approval, but with a large out-cry of disapproval, they might think again.

Please help, Purley needs you!!

More affordable housing is urgently needed, so we mustn't be a NIMBY must we?

What makes you think they will be affordable?

This proposed development would be another nail in the coffin of what used to be a pretty little town.

High Rises like this should be in areas where they are suited, not in Purley

I've posted it on here too:

There are already a couple of constructive points on there regarding framing your comments in planning terms etc..

Unfortunately for you, as more and more people pile into London and it continues to become more over crowded the need for new housing will continue to grow. Croydon is currently on the wave out of central London where new builds are shooting up and Purley, due to mainline station, will be next/ has already started.

But not at the detriment of everyone who already lives there.

Developments like this MUST be kept in places where they don't look out of place

I'm sure that I read somewhere that it is as high as it is because the original plan was declined and they were told to make it taller

Purley was really nice in the 70's and 80's and then Tesco turned up.

That church has been sitting and waiting on that plot development for decades. It could and should have been developed on multiple times but that proposal is ridiculously out of place.

Tesco didn't ruin Purley, knocking down one house and building a side road with 5 houses/20 flats in it's place has.

Optimistic as ever

Where do you mean?

I think Tesco has ruined Purley. It is now a junction, a slow dual carriageway, somewhere you pass through, don't want to stop, can't stop and air polluted. The traffic there is quite incredible compared to the '80s.
