exactly...if we are going after proper players and end up with lesser players its better than not trying.

Why? A bid has been made, that seems reasonable based upon all the reports in credible newspapers. Whether Palace are being played by the player is another matter. But it is clear the willingness to spend big if needs be is there. Surely, in of itself that is good news, even if this transfer does not come off? Or did I miss something and we didn't sign Cabaye last year?

yes, just seen that he's joining Chelsea. Credit to Parish and the board for coming so close to signing a player of this quality.

Unfortunately, we will always be facing competition for players like this, no matter what we offer the selling club and the player. Landing Cabaye was a real coup. Of course, his experience with Pardew was a major factor in his signing. We just have to hope that, if we keep attempting to sign players like this, now and then we will be successful.
