Government do all sorts of things in the name of the people which many of the people disapprove of. That is a fact of life.

But what is the "right thing"?

Most normal people hate to see others suffer. They will help if they reasonably can.
But what if by helping they potentially jeopardise the future of their loved ones?

To be honest mate I don't know. The more I look at politics the more I find myself laughing at how ridiculous it all is, and realising that no one seems to have a f*cking clue what to do, which makes me feel better about my own doubts!

But the refugee situation at the moment, it kind of reminds me of this bit in Robinson Crusoe which I'm reading at the moment. He sees some people on his island eating human flesh and decides that the only course of action is to kill everyone.

I guess really it comes down to how scared you wanna be. I was in Turkey for a year, and there were bombs going off all over the place, but I just thought to myself 'well, if it happens so be it, it's pretty much out of my control and as long as I'm more likely to be killed by a car than a terrorist, I won't work myself up about it'. We're still in that scenario IMO, and it's one that every generation has to face. There's always been a fringe group who wanna kill us all, there's always been governments utilising the fear that produces, but likewise there's always been the option of fear or happiness, and we need to remember that we have a lot more reasons to be happy than those poor sods stuck on dingys in the Med fleeing wars.

If punk ever happened I'd be preaching the law, instead of listenin to Lydon lecture BBC4

Politics is just old men trying to establish their power and virility over others. Its the most futile and base of pursuits. One up from being a paedophile, but less respectable than prostitution. You regularly scrape more meaningful substance from your shoes.

Politicians are the bane of humanity, not its saviours. Little improves or changes because politiicans got involved, and when it does, its because its in their self interest to do so.

Democracy, its a series of tyrannies without the catharis of a lynching every time you change systems.

And voting only encourages them. Abstention at least has the advantage of a clear conscience and the knowledge that at least you had no complicity in their activities.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

You are truly a bard sir.

A modern day Siegfried Sassoon, Walt Whitman and Lord Byron all rolled in to one.

Irrational fear can be the enemy but fear also protects us.

My despair is that we spend so much time in the business of killing each other when we all have such short lives anyway. Sadly this will only escalate when the population reaches a critical point.

Terrorism in Europe is not new. It won't go away if borders are shut.

And as I said - most terrorists are homegrown anyway. This fella might have been too. We don't know yet.

Not surprised to see this terrorist hand-wringing post from you here.

It's nothing that Palestinian autonomy (with pre-1967 borders) wouldn't change.

BBC are reporting that the Berlin polizei are 'unsure' whether the Afghan/pakistani/whatever he is, is the attacker. With my cynical hat on, I think they know full f*cking well what he is and are deliberately blurring it because they know full well what kind of sh*tstorm is going to blow otherwise.

Typical Germany - the one time you want them to be true to type and react with Teutonic ruthlessness, they act like pussies.

Of course they are.

It's like when they first started reporting it yesterday as a possible incident/accident, despite every witness saying it was in no plausible way an accident.
