The key difference is the manager, Pardew deserves credit for getting us there but again we showed naivety in that game, especially after Man United went down to 10 men.

Actually your right. The game management from pardew or the lack of it cost us that day. If we had Benteke though might of given us that extra edge.

The lack of play on decision costs us dearly. That said your 1-0 up with a 5 minutes to play. I'm sure big Sam side wouldn't of conceded.

No, he would not. He would've been making sure the team kept its shape and remained focused on keeping United away from our goal, instead of doing stupid dances and posing for the cameras.

Mariappa off the bench also sort of cost us, he had looked extremely poor that season when he did make an appearance, I think losing Dann and for Mariappa to come on did affect the players. If it were today and Dann or Kelly to come on for Sakho/Tomkins then it wouldn't have been such a blow.

Townsend vs Bolasie is an interesting one, Bolasie had a poor game that day but for me is still much better than Andros. BUT the Andros of today works so much harder for the team that it's feasible to say he would have played better in that final for us.

But are we also saying that Man United would have Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Bailly etc?

The bench is just as important as the XI there. We could put out a much stronger bench this year that could be utilised to steady the ship.

I assume we're talking about our current squad if there were no injuries though? Without the injuries of Tomkins and Sakho the centre back pairing we could put out now would be a lot better (also assuming Sakho was on a loan contract that allowed him to play).

Horrible day moved my holiday back a day 14 family went out on the day and I'd booked a new flight on the Sunday
Was like 1990 all over again so close yet so far
Punch should have started and Gayle for all of the 2nd half, dont even want to mention c***enberg ffs makes me puke!
Although I dont want to blame anyone but Jedi should have taken Rooney out he just ran and ran with the ball for what seemed like forever

In hindsight, we were witnessing not only Pardew's naivety, but also the lack of fitness that was creeping into the squad. We lost to 10 men in extra time, and never really looked like winning it with the man advantage.

Allardyce's team would've had the legs to dominate in extra time, not that they would've conceded after going 1-up in the first place.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Have you watched this year's team? Looked at the league table?

I know we don't really have anything to play for but I think we may well get a good idea on Sunday.
