To keep happening you have got to think the problem is with their Terms and Conditions unless they only hire narcoleptic people and there are only 25,000 of them in the UK.

i do my job sitting at a desk. if i cant keep awake, I have to deal with it. Worst case I fall asleep and get sacked or have a day of running about to keep awake. I don't kill anyone falling asleep at my desk.

Whilst being investigated by all and sundry, i'd assume that their employment t's and c's have been looked at too. There is absolutely no excuse for this at all.

Shocking stuff. Given the recent disaster, and loss of life, it shows a terrible disregard for human life by the driver.

Maybe they should wire his bollocks up to the electrical circuit, and provide them with an electric shock every 10 seconds, if they don't press a button.

And those people are prescribed dexamphetamine or methamphetamines, so if they're taking their meds, they're going to struggle with sleeping in the morning.

the tram wasn't moving. It's not like he was roaring along through traffic and crowds of people asleep at the wheel

Don't they "dead man" devices on those things so the tram will stop if it isn't engaged?

Driver suspended. Lots on news about fear to report any tiredness. Something must be wrong with the expectations placed on the drivers.

Agree with you. Don't hear regular reports of a certain number bus route having drivers fall asleep at the wheel.something is wrong here.

I used to work in a call centre and actually fell asleep whilst awaiting a call. I remember waking up and a woman laughing at the other end of the phone asking if I was asleep.

Just imagine if you called say your bank and when the phone was answered you heard snoring!.

what's the odds RMT defend him and call a strike?

But then in future they'll use health and safety as reason for striking as they have done in the past or in the case of Southern's guard dispute
