Presidents/Prime Ministers etc have little to do with any economy, but the Central Banking system that we've had forced upon us does, the obvious example being the constant 'boom-bust cycle' (wealth confiscation) that we are subjected to.
They are more than important and far from nothing as they are the ones who dictate the lending (or not) of funds along with the level of interest rates. They have a far far bigger effect on any given economy than the head of any given political party ever will. Sadly.
Cunds, the lot of 'em.

I wouldn't disagree with ta lot of the sentiment of your last sentence.

Still, while I agree that they are vital I disagree that the President and the path that he and his selected team ultimately choose isn't the determining factor.

Members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System are nominated by the President and approved by Congress.

The buck ultimately stops with the President.

Have you lot f***in heard yourselves bickering with your political top trumps on a thread that should be about the outrageous, and callous murder of Children and young adults buy a suicide bomber.

FFS Kerm even managed to have a pop at Thatcher. Time to get a grip ladies and gents.

Nick do you think Islam treats all people the same, regardless of sexuality, gender, faith and race?

2nd time I've asked... you don't have to answer if you don't want.

No it doesn't and some of its people don't . But show me any holy book or members of any religion who do?

Will find the source but I read ariana Grande left Christianity and went to kabbalah as her brother is homosexual and she didn't like the way it is treated as a sin by the church

Here we are. Apols for it being the mail

It's a 41 page thread and counting and if it were an 'RIP' one I would sincerely hope it would stick to just that but it isn't so with nearly 500 replies it is naturally going to meander a bit as nearly all threads do. If people do cross a line they are rounded on very quickly. A bit of self-policing.

It's a thread about the Manchester Arena tragedy, if you want to politically point score, do it on the Election thread and show some respect.

Yep, and we can thank Maggie for starting that ball rolling giving the banks de-regulated free rein to do what the fvck they wanted in pursuit of greed.

So she messed up housing, banking, education, employment, helped create the feckless, chav Jeremy Kyle loviing class and signed up to the bigger EEC/EU which many abhor.

Best PM we ever had.

The ''ball started rolling'' in '71 with the end (temporary suspension my arse lol) of Bretton Woods. Google a graph and look at the effect it had on the ability to print money (from thin-air) and the debt/inflation that came with it.
Thatcher, along with every PM/President, is purely a 'front'. They get told what to do and when to do it.

The Fed puts up the nominees. The President gets to choose one. Hardly a choice tbh.
As Greenspan himself has said, ''There is not one single agency in the US that The Federal Reserve is answerable to''.
Tells you all you need to know.

Nope, the President chooses. If he doesn't like his choices they have to give him others.

The President can also fire them...with cause but fire them nevertheless.

I know where you are coming from but I don't agree that the President is a supplicant to the reserve when ultimately he chooses its leadership.

The system is built with a certain amount of balance despite what Greenspan may say there.

I frequently go off topic in a thread. I think if it's just for a bit then most of us can live with it.

I get it that some posters p1ss off some more than others but it's all just knockabout at the end of the day. Opposition is ok.

Nothing we say here ultimately amounts to a hill of beans. It's just a valve for our thoughts.
