Are people just starting threads with deliberately bad suggestions now?

Personally don't see Hodgson as the answer, he has succeeded at clubs our size before but he is yesterday's man. I'd like to see a young hungry man in place as soon as possible.

We do need to move the appointment forward as soon as possible so that the new man can have a good run up at the new season.

Agree, a short term appointment at best, noting his age, although some would argue that he is younger than Trump and that his age should not be a barrier.
Would personally like a much younger candidate who will be with us for the medium to long term.

The good cop, bad cop worked with the appointment for big Sam and little Sam. He has premiership experience and has done reasonably well with Ireland. With there no stand out candidates. Would O'Neil consider a move back to the prem.

What your thoughts

He was on our books 50 years ago although he didn't play for the first team.

It would be like coming home for him as Selhurst Park hasn't changed much in those 50 years

First and foremost not to keen on the idea of Hodgson.
However, being involved in the England set up, I wonder if Roy and Little Sam would link up well together? I could possibly see that working......could be wrong of course!

Take the England debacle out of the equation and it's fair to say Hodgson has a decent track record.

My issue is he is 69! Sounds horrendously ageist but I want someone here long term.

What about the 3 group games before that. Barely beat Wales and two limp draws against pretty poor Russia and Slovakia sides.

I think you're also forgetting the debacle in the 2014 world cup (bottom of the group with 1 point and played terribly).

We were also got played off the park by Italy in 2012 and were lucky only to lose on penalties. Ironically this was his best tournament and the one he had least to do with seeing as he only became manager a short while before.

He won 3 games in 3 tournaments, none of which were knockouts. I think his reputation has been rubbished by a lot more than one game. His decision making and squad and team selections in all three tournaments were questionable at best as well. In my opinion he was an abysmal England manager.

I'd be very disappointed with Hodgson, but would obviously hope he ended up doing a good job.

He only lost 8 games out of the 56 England games he managed - only matched by Capello, 6 out of 42 (apart from Big Sam's played 1, lost 0).

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell]

69, rich and potentially set in his ways.

There's no way he's clueless as suggested due to his England record but if anything that worries me more.

Would he be able to identify a new way forward like Cante has at Chelsea. Young and ambitious and changing a 4-2-3-1 to a 5-3-2 despite the former winning the league several times? I doubt it.

He'll rely on his experience and what worked decades ago. He won't have the energy to implement anything new and why would he need to? If he gets Palace relegated he'll retire to a summer home in France with no worries.

We need someone that needs this job to be a success. I'd sooner take Gary Neville after he was embarrassed at Valencia and needs to make his own mark on the game if he's to ever get back into management.

If I was Steve Parish i'd be on the phone to either Japp Stam or Jokanovic.

Both forward thinking coaches who would compliment Alladyces forward thinking backroom team.

As I said earlier in reply to someone. I actually think you have more chance of Hodgson being here for 3-4 seasons than any up and coming manager.

The trouble with ambition is for us that people will move on, bloody hell even Dougie did it to us. Pochettino did it to Southampton etc.

Hodgson is hardly an exciting candidate but that doesn't necessarily make him a bad one
