Bloody Brexit - is there no end to the crimes, torture and murder it is responsible for - they will be ploughing up turnips without anaesthetic next. What we want is more of those nice halal butchers. Surely, in this day and age, we have the technology to have video messages built into the packaging. When you go to buy your chicken it could tell you" "Hi, I was brought up in an open chicken-run and spent my days happily pecking worms to death"...

Astonishingly it took you two sentences to deflect on to Muslims - Must try harder

And it will get worse.

I was speaking to a farmer yesterday, and he reported that the nation's vetinary practices are being hoovered up by the yanks.

Which means that the US pharma companies will not be very far away.

What do nationalist think of this?

The obvious point here is that this sort of intensive farming is a result of demand. The bigger the population grows, the more demand for food.

The more demand for meat you mean not food.

Nearly one third of India's 1.3 billion inhabitants manage to get by without eating meat but far too many Brits can't cope without meat in their microwaved meals

It is relevant as we are discussing cruelty in the use of animals for food.

Who is this farmer who knows about the US plot to take over UK vets?

So eating less meat is the answer to the population problem?
Stop eating meat so we can have a bigger population.
Genius.
If we cut down on other things like water and vegetables, rooms in our houses, sanitation and health care, we can have even more people. In fact we could be much more like India.

No, that cruelty doesn't count because it's religion innit.

Why don't we eat each other? I don't mean you and I, I mean as a people. Or am I stating the bleeding obvious solution to two big headaches?

Oh and of course giving up eating meat would solve population problems. Have you seen how much of the countryside cows take up? That's space you could build a council estate on.

But aren't you deflecting rather than discussing, by saying the point of discussing animal cruelty is invalid because of Halal / Kosher.

Personally, you can discuss the cruelty inherent in systems of mass meat production without needing to discuss Halal. Cruelty is cruelty.

Cannibalism is fraught with dangers that eating meat from a different species isn't, due the tendency for diseases not to cross species.

Mass consumption of humans, would in fact generate all manner of disease and disorders that would make inbreeding look tame.

Of course we could feed people to animals. That would keep the population down, decrease the meat industry and deal with unwanted children.

It is arguably though a different question, as its a moral argument about the absurdity of religion vs the morality of consumerism.
