At Sakho's age and on say a 3 year contract there would be little re-sale value, so the value is in him assisting us getting as higher position as possible. Question is can we afford to write off say £15m on this basis.

Seems this deal is dead in the water until Liverpool make some noises, the only way I can see his price come down / loan to us again, is if Liverpool spend big have to make some money and it's at the end of the transfer window, then they might be persuaded to drop his price by 5 - 8 million.

He's not even in the squad for the Asia trophy. I think this could be a last minute buy, but will be in the middle prob around £25m. Still think we should go in for him. He was proven so would work well. £25m is the old £15m

Similar story in the Mirror Summary: Palace still interested, would like another loan Sounds like we're still very much after another defender or two. Maybe we're bulking over the Chambers fee and thinking if Arsenal want north of twenty then maybe Sakho becomes better value... Or maybe we're looking at Martins Indi or Sakho or Chambers or a combination of two of those... I'd have thought JR will play LCB which leaves RCB for Chambers and Sakho or Indis for the central position depending who we get. Maybe we can get Chambers on a year loan with option to buy and stump up the cash for Sakho... Then have Tomkins, Dann, Kelly and Damo as back up. Would then def need to sell to pay for a keeper and GVDWiel, if there still targets... Plot thickens... think it's gonna be a long window

Looks like an old recycled story.

Thing is if the story is true, it means Sakho holds all the cards. Liverpool will absolutely want him off the wages and to recoup as much as they can from the 27 year old. But they need his agreement, if he wants to come Palace then come Palace he will. Liverpool will have to budge if he's not willing to sign for someone else and they don't want to play him. They can't have £25m defender siting in reserves costing them £100k week. Think the good news from this article (if it's not a rehash of old news) is that Sakho wants back!
